Is it possible to order from multiple online stores on one platform?

Hi all!

First off, I’m completely new to Shopify and don’t have a business (yet..?). I’ve been thinking about Shopify for an idea that I have, but I wanted to check the possibility for my idea that is based on a few key functions.

Essentially, the idea that I have is somewhat like this:

I’m thinking of creating a service where you can order products. These products are located on several different online stores (not necessarily Shopify ones). On my store, I want the products from all stores available for purchase, along with info about the product and the store it comes from. So the orders for the products are pulled from other their respective websites. My store would then act as a database of the other websites products, and you can order them from directly from my store.

The idea is to have people order these products, and also be able to send back other products they’ve ordered to the same store they came from.

Of course, this is just an idea to see the possibility. There’s more to it, but it’s a foundation of the idea. The stores in question would of course be part of it and I would need permission and a custom agreement with them.

So to my question: is this possible on Shopify? With current tools or custom ones?

Thanks for the help, let me know if something is unclear.

I think it’s doable. You’ll definitely need an app to handle the inventory management as well as other operations; Shopify on its own won’t do.

I don’t know if there exists one in the App Store already that you could use, but if it there isn’t, you could certainly have a custom one built, by yourself if you’re a coder or by paying someone to do it for you.
