Is Shopify good for online tutoring services?

Hello-

I’m looking for alternate tutoring platform for my tutoring business. I have personally liked the Shopify but not sure if it’s good fir for tutoring services .

Is Shopify a good platform for online tutoring business? Or is it just for e-commerce business only?

Shopify is fine as the ecommerce part: handling the transactions for purchasing tutoring.

You can hobble a manual process together using shopify,email, google calendar, and something like google meet for screencalls.

Shopify is not fine to be the backbone of a curriculum or used as a LMS, it does not have:

  • no built in scheduling functionality with product purchase - requires a booking app , careful product setup, or theme customization to collect times/dates at cart|checkout.
  • no CRM, guests/customers create an account but after that there is little in creating custom workflows in the admin
  • no utilities facilitating educational content, progress tracking, paperwork per customer
  • no VOIP , screensharing , call services

So you will not be able to use only shopify, you will need apps and services to bring it all together.

Or use a software LMS like moodle on your own server, or wordpress with LMS plugins, then using shopify just for collecting payment using shopify-buy-buttons.

Though at that point you may want to just consider using something like paypal buttons instead comparing fees.

I’d challenge what PaulNewton just said.

You can use almost any Shopify theme and use an app like Sesami to manage class schedules and appointments.

Shopify will give you a good enough CRM to manage your customers.
