I recieved this message in my shopify contact form
Topic summary
A user received a suspicious message through their Shopify contact form and questioned its legitimacy.
Key concerns identified:
- The message claimed SPF (Sender Policy Framework) issues were affecting product discoverability
- SPF is actually related to email authentication settings, not product visibility
- The sender used a Gmail account, which Shopify typically doesnât use for official communications
Community consensus:
- This appears to be a scam attempt
- Similar fraudulent messages have targeted other store owners recently, falsely claiming issues with technical elements like ârobots.txtâ
- Users can verify actual SPF settings independently using tools like easydmarc.com
Outcome: The original poster wisely avoided responding to the message. The discussion remains resolved with clear confirmation that this was likely a scam.
Hi @Shawyors
There are a lot of scams, especially one that contacts you directly.
For the alleged issue, SPF does not have any connection to âfind and buy of your productsâ. It is connected to email settings.
You still can check https://easydmarc.com/tools/spf-lookup and see if there is any issue with this.
One of the store owners today got an email with a similar scam, ârobots.txtâ is not good and wanted money to fix the issue, there is non existing.
Stay safe
Thank youâŚit really is strange and seems to be a scam. So glad I did not reply to it
Hi @Shawyors It does appear to be very sketchy to me so itâs best left unreplied to. Also, just as a rule of thumb, Shopify does not contact people with Gmail accounts under normal circumstances.
