"Is this store live" message

I’m a new shop and just received a message from someone through my contact form asking “is this store live?” I’m wary to answer because I feel like new customers don’t ask that question. Should this be ignored? Thanks!

Hi @BorrowedLeather

There are several reasons why customers might already have your contact information, even if your store is just getting started:

Contact Form on Website: Customers could have filled out a contact form on your website, a common method for submitting inquiries or requesting support.

Website Information: If you have listed your contact details, such as email or phone number, on your website, customers may use this information to reach out directly.

Advertising or Social Media: Running ads or posting on social media platforms can also lead to customers finding and using your contact information.

Customer List or Subscriptions: If you have an email list or offer a subscription for updates, customers who have signed up can use this information to get in touch.

Other Contact Channels: Customers might find your contact details through other sales platforms where you have a presence, such as e-commerce sites or business directories.

In summary, it’s completely normal for customers to acquire your contact information through these various channels, and it’s an integral part of conducting business online.

I don’t think this is something you need to worry about. I hope this information is helpful to you.

I had the same message today. I think the question is more - is this a spam email or fishing scheme that Shopify is aware of? That would be helpful information in determining whether to respond or not. Many thanks.

I also received an identical message through my contact form and my store has been up for a couple years. The email address is a hushsmails.com domain which isn’t an active website.

The whole thing feels fishy.

same thing here! have received 2 in the last week, from the same “person” same message twice. Also with a @hushsmails.com. I replied the first time, but now considering it spam and ignoring it!
