My ads say I get website visitors but shopify doesn't register any

Hey, Hey Hey, I wanted to talk about this issue to see if anyone has an answer. My meta ads and tik tok ads say I get hunderds of clicks, about 1/3 of them converts to landing page views, but shopify only said I had a few website visitors. For instance, yesterday, tik tok ads said I had 123 clicks, 47 landing page views and shopify registered only 5 customers from tik tok ads on my webiste. The issue appeared when I did major changes to my theme as I re-structued by business, and I switched from AutoDS to selfnamed cosmetics as my supplier. But, I changed meta and tik tok pixels, I even bought a different shopify account and started from scratch using a different theme but nothing worked. I even tried linking an almost empty dawn theme to see if the issue might be website loading speed (that page had 1.2sec mobile loading speed), but the results were the same… Did anyone ever fix that issue that they encountered?

Hi @user2414

That sounds incredibly frustrating. Since you have already ruled out theme speed and basic pixel setup by testing different themes and even a new account, the most likely remaining causes are outside your direct control or in less obvious settings.

First, bot traffic or low-quality clicks are very common on ad platforms like TikTok and Meta. These bots click the ad but never actually load your page enough for Shopify’s stricter tracking to register a session.

Second, your cookie consent banner could be the culprit. If it’s set up to block Shopify’s own analytics script before a visitor clicks “Accept,” anyone who leaves your site without accepting won’t be counted as a session in Shopify, even if they landed briefly.

Finally, it is always worth double-checking the exact landing page URLs in your ads for any typos or redirect issues that might be causing people (and tracking) to drop off before reaching your site. Given your extensive testing, I would focus your investigation on the possibility of significant bot traffic or an overly restrictive consent banner configuration.

Hope this helps!

Please share your store URL here at first, so that I can take a look and see if it is related to store content.

Hey, I can confirm that cookies are not the problem. I installed a paid app for cookies which tracks customers - and well - the app doesn’t register the people from my ads at all. and the app tracks everyone - no matter if they accepeted or decined the cookies. I also downloaded a seperate website tracking app - which tracks all customers and where they’re from. And it also didn’t reccord people from my ads. furthermore - I now realized, that the campaigns are not visible for me. In the past, I could see all of my paid campaigns in the marketing->campaigns section on shopify, but now, they’re not visible there… I’ve trippled checked all the links and they work correctly, and the pixel is set-up and connected correctly and when tested it works well. And to remind of the issue, shopify doesn’t register any visitors from my ads, even though meta and tik tok both say that I’ve had visitors who fully loaded the page and visited it.
