I am trying to create a nested menu item for when our customer hovers or clicks on “Collections” they will see three options to click on. When i go in the navigation page and nest them. They are not showing on the main menu page when i view the website.
Topic summary
A user is attempting to create a nested dropdown menu under “Collections” but the sub-items aren’t appearing on the website despite being configured in the navigation settings.
Troubleshooting suggestions provided:
- Verify the parent menu item is set to display as a dropdown/mega menu in theme settings
- Confirm nested items are correctly assigned to the parent “Collections” item
- Check that the menu created in navigation matches the one selected as the main top menu in the theme editor
Key considerations:
- The theme may not support nested menus in that specific location
- Visual examples and more context (screenshots, store URL, whether it’s a header menu vs. collection page menu) would help diagnose the issue
Current status: The user has experience with nested menus but this particular implementation isn’t working despite rearranging and recreating items. Support staff recommended contacting Shopify Help Center directly for account-specific assistance, as the issue likely stems from theme-specific configuration.
Ensure that the parent menu item Collections is set to display as a dropdown or mega menu in your theme settings. Then, check if the nested menu items are correctly assigned to the Collections parent item in the navigation settings.
Hello thank you for your response. I understand your concept of what you are describing but I just need more information on the instruction side or visual examples.
Hey @nobadshop ,
Can you please share your store so that I can debug this issue on the website and suggest some solutions?

how do i share my store
If you’re not seeing any sub-items show under your menu, it’s likely that whatever theme you’re using isn’t built to support those sub-items in that particular area. When posting for help on this forum, you will likely garner better assistance if you give more context (is this store live? What else have you tried?), better screenshots (perhaps show if this is a menu in your header, on the collection page, or somewhere else) and also a link to view your store (some-store.myshopify.com and the storefront password that can be found under online store > preferences if it’s not live yet).
Cheers
Hey @nobadshop ,
Sorry for the confusion. Could you please provide the store URL so that I can review the website?

Hey, @nobadshop
We have a step-by-step guide in our help center that will show you how to accomplish this.
Once you created the menu, be sure to go into your online store theme editor and ensure the menu that has been selected to be your top main menu is the same one you just created for the nested menus.
If there is anything else I can help you with, please let me know.
Does the store have to be unlocked for you to do that?
Hey Dirk,
Still having troubles following. I have used nested menus before. Im just not sure why this one isnt working. I rearranged them and deleted and redid some. Still not working.
Hi, @nobadshop . If you’re following the steps in the guide Dirk shared and are still having trouble with your navigation it’s likely being caused by the way this is set up within your theme. I’d recommend you contact our support team through the Help Center for more help so we can take a look at your account with you.
