No one buys and they abandon there carts

Please can anyone help?
I have more that 4k subscribers, all very active each month. We have good interaction and I have 74% open rates and around 2% click through rates. However no one buys my products, and I have a lot of abandonment on carts. I am pulling my hair out, trying to figure where and how I am going wrong.

Hi @Mapunda

Could you share a link to your store?

You need to share your store URL

Hi @Mapunda ! I’m Tracy from BON Loyalty, the top-rated Shopify loyalty app.

It sounds like you’ve built a solid foundation with your audience, a decent amount of subscribers, high open rates, and decent engagement. However, the gap between engagement and conversions suggests a few specific areas to evaluate and optimize. As you haven’t share the link to your website yet, I have some assumptions:
1. You haven’t met the product-market fit
You can start by asking youself: ‘Are your products truly solving a problem or meeting a desire for your audience?.’ This can be done easily, with low-buget if you try:

  • Survey subscribers: Ask why they haven’t purchased—offer a quick survey with an incentive, like a small discount.
  • Check pricing: Is your pricing aligned with your target market’s expectations? Consider testing price points.

2. There’s friction or hesitation in the purchase journey

Some actions you can do to check and improve the purchase journey on your website are:

  • Simplify the Checkout: Is your process too long or confusing? Minimize steps, offer guest checkout, and ensure mobile-friendliness.
  • Ensure there are no bugs or slow load times.
  • Hidden fees (e.g., high shipping costs) are a top reason for cart abandonment. Offer free shipping thresholds or make all costs clear upfront.

3. Your content still has room for improvement

Especially the content on your homepage and product page. You can ask yourself: “Are your product pages convincing enough?”. Did you provide high-quality product images (lifestyle and close-ups)? Did you highlight benefits, not just features and focus on how the product improves their life?

You can also consider adding social proof (reviews, testimonials, or user-generated content) or using sscarcity & urgency (like limited stock or time-sensitive discounts) to encourage conversion.

If you find these suggestions helpful for you, please let me know by giving BON Loyalty a ‘LIKE’ or marking it as a ‘SOLUTION’.

Cheers,

Hi, I’m Wayne from Akohub. We have been working with many brands to run online stores. I have viewed your website and hope our expertise can help you.

I understand how frustrating it can be to see that engagement not translating into sales. As a solution, I will highly recommend an effective strategy to consider - retargeting, which focuses on reaching out to those potential customers who have shown interest in your products but haven’t completed their purchase. Retargeting campaigns can be particularly powerful for recovering abandoned carts, as they remind users of the items they left behind and encourage them to return and finalize their purchase.

The reason retargeting is so effective in converting sales lies in its ability to reconnect with people who are already familiar with your brand and have expressed interest in your offerings. By serving ads specifically tailored to those who visited your site or added items to their cart, you can reignite their interest and provide that gentle nudge they might need to complete their transaction. This approach not only keeps your products top-of-mind but also fosters a sense of urgency, which can be crucial in driving conversions.

While retargeting focuses on individuals who have interacted with your site, dynamic ads take this a step further by automatically showcasing products that users viewed or showed interest in. The key difference is that dynamic ads personalize the experience based on user behavior, displaying specific items that align with their interests. Both strategies aim to enhance engagement and drive sales, but retargeting often leads to better Return on Ad Spend ROAS because it targets users who are already familiar with your offerings and are more likely to convert.

If you’re looking to enhance your marketing efforts and tackle the challenge of cart abandonment, our Ako Marketing app could be a game-changer for your business. Our app offers powerful retargeting features that simplify the process of setting up effective marketing campaigns. With our app you can easily create targeted ads that reach customers who have previously engaged with your store, reminding them of the products they showed interest in. This strategic approach not only helps recover abandoned carts but also increases the likelihood of converting those interested visitors into paying customers.

Best wishes! If you have any more questions or need a free professional consultation, feel free to let us know! Don’t forget to like and mark it as a solution if you find this helpful.

Hey @Akohub

Would you be kind to share a link to the store?

" I have viewed your website and hope our expertise can help you"

It sounds like you’ve done a fantastic job building engagement—74% open rates are impressive! However, I can imagine how frustrating it is when that doesn’t translate into sales.

Without knowing the specifics of your situation, it’s tough to say for sure, but here are a few common issues that could be at play

Let’s tackle the key areas to identify what might be going wrong.

1. Product-Related Issues: Are your products meeting audience’s needs?- Pricing: Check if your prices align with customer expectations. Compare with competitors selling similar products.

  • Product-Market Fit: Is there a chance your audience doesn’t see the products as essential to them? Survey them to understand their preferences better.

2. Cart & Checkout Experience

Abandoned carts are a sign something’s not clicking at the final step.

  • Shipping Costs: Surprise shipping fees are one of the biggest turn-offs. Offer free shipping if possible or make fees clear early on.
  • Complicated Process: A long, clunky checkout process can drive people away. Simplify it and allow guest checkouts.
  • Trust Signals: Include trust badges, secure payment icons, and testimonials to assure buyers of safety.

3. Email Campaign Optimization

Your open rates are great, but the 2% click-through rate suggests room for improvement.

  • Strong CTAs: Are your emails clearly directing users to specific actions, like “Shop Now” or “Claim Your Discount”?
  • Segment Your Audience: If you’re sending the same message to everyone, consider personalizing emails based on behavior, like what they viewed or added to their carts.
  • Re-engagement Offers: Send reminders for abandoned carts with exclusive discounts to nudge hesitant buyers.

4. Trust & Social Proof

Sometimes, users don’t buy because they don’t fully trust the brand yet.

  • Reviews & Testimonials: Display customer reviews prominently on your site.
  • Social Media Validation: Share user-generated content (UGC) or influencers using your products.
  • Return Policy: Highlight an easy, no-hassle return policy to reduce buying anxiety.

5. Testing and Analytics

Lastly, don’t guess—test!

  • A/B Testing: Experiment with different email subject lines, product pricing, and checkout flows.
  • Feedback: Ask users why they didn’t complete their purchase. A quick post-checkout survey can reveal valuable insights.

Your subscriber base and engagement are your biggest strengths. With some tweaks to your product positioning, email campaigns, and checkout experience, I’m confident you can turn things around. Keep testing, asking for feedback, and focusing on what your customers really need.

Hope this can help you!

Best regards,
Daisy.

Hi @Mapunda

I would love to explore why the store has a lot of abandonment on carts since your users seem to be pretty engaging. Are the products suited to your niche? Would be able to explore more if you could provide your store URL.

Meanwhile, there are a few things you can try out and see what works.

  1. Create Urgency: Use flash sales or countdown timers to encourage quick purchases before deals expire.
  2. Run Abandoned Cart Email Campaigns: Send personalized reminders with incentives like discounts or free shipping to recover lost sales.
  3. Add Trust Signals: Include reviews, money-back guarantees, secure payment badges, and clear refund policies to build credibility.
  4. Speed Up the Checkout Process: Simplify checkout with one-click or guest options to reduce cart abandonment.
  5. Offer Small Time-Sensitive Deals: Provide rewards like free shipping for orders completed within a set timeframe to drive urgency.
  6. Highlight Return Policies: Clearly display return/refund policies on product pages and checkout to reassure hesitant buyers.
  7. Ask for Feedback: Run campaigns like “Share your feedback for 5% off” to improve processes and boost future sales.
  8. Personalize Recommendations: Suggest products based on browsing or purchase history to create a tailored shopping experience.
  9. Improve Product Visibility: Use high-quality images, detailed descriptions, and sizing charts to help customers make confident decisions.
  10. Simplify Payment Options: Offer multiple payment methods, digital wallets, and “Buy Now, Pay Later” options to ease the checkout process.

By implementing these strategies, you’ll create a more frictionless experience for your customers, encourage them to finalize their purchases, and increase your conversion rates. Keep up the excellent work, and don’t hesitate to reach out if you needed. You’ve already achieved great engagement—now it’s time to turn that into sales!

If you can provide your store’s URL, I might be able to offer even more personalized suggestions based on your site’s specific setup and needs.

Hey @Mapunda , possible to share your store URL? That way, I can help better.

If you’re getting strong engagement but no sales, it’s worth stepping back and looking at where people drop off. Fix one thing at a time based on what the data says.

  1. Are people clicking but not exploring beyond one product?
Make discovery easier—highlight bestsellers on the home page, add “You might also like” sections on product pages.

  2. Are product pages not converting?

Test better images, clearer descriptions, FOMO triggers like “Only 3 left,” or UGC & reviews to boost trust.

  1. Are shoppers abandoning at checkout?

Nudge them with free shipping thresholds, in-cart recommendations, or reminders of what they left behind. (ConvertWise can help with this, btw.)

Check session recordings, spot the friction points, and optimize from there. All the best:)

Hi @Mapunda ,

I hear you, it’s super frustrating to see strong engagement but no sales. With 74% open rates, you’re clearly getting attention, so the issue likely lies after the click.

Here are two key areas to focus on:

  • Cart & Checkout Experience
Review if your checkout is too long, unclear, or has unexpected fees. High cart abandonment often means something is making people hesitate at the final step.
  • Follow-Up & Timing
A single cart reminder isn’t always enough. Try sending 2-3 well-timed follow-ups with urgency or incentives like free shipping. The messaging matters just as much as the timing.

If you’re looking to improve your email automation, Retentionly – AI Email Marketing helps you run high-converting flows like abandoned cart recovery, welcome emails, win-back campaigns, and post-purchase upsells.

It’s built to be easy for beginners and even uses AI to simplify setup. You’ll only ever pay for the emails you actually send; no charges based on how many subscribers you have. Best of all, the team handles the complete automation setup for you at no extra cost.

You can reach out to us anytime through our live chat if you have any questions.

Cheers,
Retentionly Team
If this helped, a like or marking it as solved is appreciated

You’re definitely doing a lot of things right already. High open rates and active subscribers show people are interested. The gap between engagement and conversions could be happening at the product or checkout stage. It might be worth reviewing your product pages, pricing, and whether the value is clearly communicated. Are your CTAs strong enough? Do your emails lead directly to specific offers or just to general pages?

Since you’re seeing a lot of cart abandonment, I’d recommend trying a cart recovery app that goes beyond basic emails. Something like Cartly Abandoned Cart Recovery by CareCart can help you automate abandoned cart reminders with personalized timing, and even include discount incentives or WhatsApp follow-ups to close the sale. Sometimes it’s just about nudging the customer at the right moment.
