Out of stock in a new store

Topic summary

A new store owner is experiencing an issue where products imported from a dropshipping supplier consistently display as “out of stock” on their website.

Root Cause:
This is normal behavior when importing dropshipped products, not malware. The issue typically stems from:

  • Inventory tracking settings not properly configured
  • Stock quantity set to 0 during import
  • Products not assigned to an active fulfillment location
  • Supplier’s inventory system showing items as unavailable

Recommended Solution:

  1. Navigate to Shopify Admin → Products → select the affected product
  2. Scroll to the Inventory section
  3. Enable “Track quantity” checkbox
  4. Set stock to at least 1 (not 0)
  5. Verify product is assigned to an active location (Settings → Locations)
  6. Save changes and refresh the storefront

Additional Considerations:

  • Identify which dropshipping app/platform is being used (DSers, Zendrop, CJ Dropshipping, etc.)
  • Some suppliers control inventory automatically through their fulfillment service
  • Basic troubleshooting steps like clearing cache or testing different browsers may help

The discussion remains open for follow-up questions.

  1. Go to Shopify Admin → Products → pick the product.

  2. Scroll down to Inventory.

  3. Make sure:

    • Track quantity is turned ON.

    • The stock number is set to at least 1 (not 0).

    • The product is assigned to an active location (Settings → Locations).

Save and refresh your storefront. The product should now show “In Stock”.

Hi @Lashurie

No worries—this isn’t malware.
What you’re seeing is actually normal behavior when importing products from a dropshipping supplier into Shopify.

Here’s why it happens:

  1. Inventory Sync – When you import products from a dropshipping app (like DSers, Zendrop, CJ Dropshipping, etc.), those products come with inventory settings tied to the supplier. If the supplier shows “0 in stock” or the inventory location isn’t set up, your Shopify store will show them as Out of Stock.
  2. Inventory Tracking – Go to your Shopify Admin → Products → click the product → scroll to Inventory. Check if:
  • Track quantity is enabled.
  • The quantity is set to 0.
  • Or if it’s tied to the dropshipper’s fulfillment service (they may control stock automatically).
  1. Supplier’s Responsibility – If the dropshipper’s system says an item is out of stock, your site will also reflect that.

Kindly feel free to get back to me if you need any further assistance.

Hello @Lashurie ,

I hope you are well!

Can you please confirm which dropshipping app or website you are using? Are you using the popular one or some random website?

Also, to track the quantity, go to Products >> Inventory >> Click on the product to track the quantity >> Click on the checkbox next to track quantity.

Hi there @Lashurie welcome to the Shopify community, have you tried basic troubleshooting like loading the store on a different browser, uninstalling some apps on the store, clearing cache cookies on your browser, etc?
