How many Shopify customers are experiencing this? I only got a week notice to look into this with no help from Shopify. I reached out customer support and said my ticket was going to be expedited to their tax team and crickets for a week.
The problem is I have the correct EIN number and even uploaded the irs letter with the number. Everything aligns up correctly. Even after I upload everything they ask its gets rejected. I even uploaded the docs to customer support team.
Then last week they email me this:
“The taxpayer identification number (TIN) on your Shopify Payments account, which is required to prepare your annual 1099-K form, doesn’t match IRS records. Your payouts have been placed on hold until you update your Shopify Payments account with accurate information.”
I reached out to support again and they are giving me the run a round saying:
“Thank you so much for your patience on this, I completely understand the urgency here! I checked your ticket (id 55647691) and can confirm that it was properly escalated to our tax/payments team who are definitely best suited to assist you here. While there is no update we can offer right now you can be assured that this was sent to them and they will be replying to you directly via email as soon as they can.”
Extremely frustrated with Shopify unable to resolve or communicate with me on this matter. Looking to use another platform for my ecommerce site as this is unacceptable. Not to mention, I am not the only one experiencing these issues.

Hi @plshelpmoi
I’m really sorry to hear about the frustration you’re facing with your paused payouts. It’s completely understandable to feel this way, especially with the short notice and lack of clear communication.
The problem with your taxpayer identification number (TIN) not being the same in IRS records, even after supplying the accurate EIN and documentation. Maybe because of a discrepancy in how the IRS has registered your business like a typo in your legal name, address, or EIN format may be the issue, even when all of this appears right to you
I’d recommend double-checking your Shopify Payments account details against your IRS CP 575 letter or EIN confirmation letter for any subtle discrepancies, and if possible, contact the IRS directly (via 1-800-829-4933) to verify your EIN status, as they can sometimes flag issues Shopify’s team might miss.
Since Shopify Support has escalated your ticket, monitor closely for responses from their tax team through your email (including spam/junk folders), and feel free to file a formal complaint through Shopify’s Help Center as a means of escalating urgency.
Thanks for your input. I will monitor closely for any responses. Everything aligns correctly, I have checked everything over and over again to make sure its all correct with no errors of any sort with my IRS CP 575 letter for any subtle mishaps and nope all is correct, no typos. I even uploaded my proof of identity with govt. issued id and and utility bill that was suggested to upload along with EIN letter. I will call the number for IRS you listed and see if they have any info on their end in the morning. Thanks for recommending that

I missed one document for owner adress and paypit paused for 2 months now every time i write in support they open new prio case, there is 12 now! This is real bad… whats better than shopify?
I use square for in person markets and have been told they are good but I saw on one thread here saying they have had issues too. But I have not had any issues with them thus far, so I am considering to switch over with a 30 day free trial. Also go daddy has their version with a free trial too. My issue with Shopify right now is that gave me less than a week to fix this with lousy ticket numbers no real people to speak to, to try to resolve the matter and customer support chat are no help giving me the run around, and I am wondering if they are even real people at this point.
Hello, I have been having this same issue and it does not make any sense. I first received a message about it a month ago and kept talking with support with no answers or help. They have now paused my payouts and still no answers from their “tax department” Have you received any updates or help?
I got a response email from Shopify team just now and they told me the same as you suggested with a screen shot of an example that helped me a lot. Turns out I need to use my full name as listed in the EIN letter and company name in the option section. I was using my company instead of my full name. Once I amended that Shopify accepted and received a notification immediately that it was updated and my payout is scheduled for today.
Hi, not sure if your situation was the same as mine but I just got it fixed with the shopify support team.

Once I amended that Shopify accepted and received a notification immediately that it was updated and my payout is scheduled for today. Now I am looking at other alternative avenues such as Square which I use for in person markets and also godaddy. Other option is to use a web designer that can make a site for me when the time comes as it is pricey. I hope your issue gets fixed. I uploaded the screen shot they sent that help me notice I need to use my full name.

Took about 2 weeks to get a response and they apologized for the wait as they have a high volume of inquires.
