Has anyone run into an issue that it Shopify Payments does not accept your EIN even though it’s correct and you’ve submitted the correct forms to verify?
“Employer Identification Number (EIN) could not be verified” is all I get when I go to submit.
I can’t seem to get past this final step, everything I input into the Shopify forms matches the SS-4 form that has the EIN #
Now my account can’t update details because it I tried to submit it too many times. I have to contact customer service which I did but, no luck with any answers back.
I have the same problem! It has been 2 weeks and the support advisors all reply with the same information which is no help at all.
“I just wanted to remind you that I’m letting them know you followed up on your ticket. I want you to know that our verification team is working really hard to make sure everything goes smoothly with the review process. They’re looking at lots of different documents and information for Shopify Payments, and they’re doing their best to finish it up as quickly as they can!”
I have 7 tickets already with different support advisors.
I am now searching on how to file a complaint and there is no way of doing that.
I’m sorry. I mistakenly posted information for a different issue that was finally resolved!
It took 28 days for my EIN situation to be resolved. But finally they contacted me the the solution.
After I completed the following steps my EIN was verified…
Here is the email/details although some of the message body is removed due to ridiculous community standards:
Hi there, “…” here from the Merchant Verification team. I’m reaching out to assist with the Shopify Payments account on your store**…**
It looks like some additional information is needed by our payment partners for continued use of the gateway. To ensure that we’ve got everything set up correctly and verified, please provide the following:
File Name: Shopify Financial Services Update Form Description: Please find a blank copy of this form here: (link to form)
File Name: Signed and dated W9 or EIN confirmation Letter Description: W-9 fillable form - (link to form) signed and dated OR IRS issued EIN confirmation letter (CP575, SS-4, 147C)
Same issue…have not had a payout since January 22. They are charging me fees and not depositing my money. I’m filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau on Monday. As soon as this nightmare is resolved I will be moving my ecommerce shops and POS system to Square.
I’m in the same boat as you! Have they emailed you yet? I reached out to them at the end of January and still haven’t heard anything. Now my payout is on hold!
I’m beyond frustrated with this situation. I’ve had the same EIN for 14 years, and I started trying to fix this over a month ago. Despite multiple assurances from support that everything was fine - even while the warning message remained - Shopify suddenly stopped all payments.
I have now reached out 11 times, and I keep getting the same response: “We’re working on it.” But nothing has been resolved, and I’m still not receiving payments. This is completely unacceptable. I’ve been with Shopify for 8 years, always spoken highly of the platform, and encouraged others to use it. But this experience has been a nightmare. I need this issue fixed immediately. I am so very disappointed and upset with Shopify!
Update - It’s been 12 days since my payments stopped! I’ve been working on this for over a month and still no solution and no one from Shopify has even contacted me! Still dealing with the chat advisors and getting the same answer - “don’t worry”. I have a business to run. How am I supposed to do that when I can’t access my funds or give customers refunds?
As of today my monies were deposited into my bank account. It took over 47 days to resolve this. Even thought my EIN number was correct that stated I had to submit copy of EIN to verify. If you don’t have a physical copy of your EIN document (147C letter) than call the IRS immediately to obtain one. They will offer to fax or mail. I chose mail and that was the wrong choice. The letter never came. I originally received the document in 2006. So I had to go on an archeological dig through boxes of financial records to locate the thing. I eventually did and uploaded it. It took another 7 days after that to receive notice that payments were no longer paused. They told me that their financial “partners” needed the verification. Additionally, I think every time you enter into a chat a new “ticket” is created and you are booted to the back of the line. I have downgraded my subscription as of today. I am researching other ecommerce platforms as I will be moving my business as soon as I can. I did research on Square and I am seeing similar customer service fails. I am so sorry this happening to others. This is not acceptable and Shopify should make a considerable effort to rectify their business practices.
same situation as of last week on hold and support staff and ticket they issued is in limbo.
they said “Thank you so much for your patience on this, I completely understand the urgency here! I checked your ticket and can confirm that it was properly escalated to our tax/payments team who are definitely best suited to assist you here. While there is no update we can offer right now you can be assured that this was sent to them and they will be replying to you directly via email as soon as they can.”
I have my account verified now, but payouts are still on hold. I moved my payments to Square to use right now, because I need the cash flow. Square has a free trial period of 30 days. I am still waiting to see if my payouts will be released.
Glad to hear it got resolved so at least there is hope but 47 do have the physical copy and uploaded it everything matches. this is very frustrating. 47 days is a long time for a small business. So disappointed in Shopify right now
Hopefully your payments will be released asap. this is unacceptable. I will look into square as I use them for my markets. I can’t afford to wait for 30 plus days and also having payments on hold after being verified.
Yes resolved after 47 days. I have not moved to Square as my research shows similar customer service issues…holding funds and freezing accounts. So the search continues. I have downgraded my subscription service on one business and cancelled completely on another.
I am going through this now and am incredibly frustrated. I have been with Shopify for two weeks and I am hating it. They claim my EIN # is not correct, but it is. I even sat on the phone for an hour with the IRS to confirm and make sure there was no issue. Each day I contact support, I chat with an advisor that claims it will be fixed. The next day I get the same email telling me to contact support again. No one is actually helping. No advisor is actually following through, they just “escalate” the issue for it to end up being sent through what seems an automated process to do the same thing. I am considering going back to Wix.
