Please help with "Domain Authentication" under shopify settings > Notification > Sender email

Topic summary

A Shopify store owner successfully connected their GoDaddy domain but encountered a notification warning that their email domain hasn’t been authenticated, causing emails to appear as sent via shopifyemail.com instead of their branded domain.

Resolution Steps Provided:

  • Navigate to Settings > Notifications and click “Authenticate Your Domain”
  • Add four CNAME records (provided by Shopify) to the domain provider’s DNS settings
  • Screenshots show the specific DNS record configuration needed in GoDaddy
  • TTL field can typically be left at default settings

Key Clarification:
CNAME records should be added at the domain registrar (not the email host) to properly configure DKIM and SPF records for email authentication.

Ongoing Issues:
Multiple users report authentication failures even after correctly adding DNS records and waiting 24+ hours. No definitive troubleshooting solution has been provided yet for these failed authentication attempts. The discussion remains open with users seeking additional help for persistent authentication problems.

Hey Guys,

I have followed the official Shopify YouTube instructions video in order to add my GoDaddy domain automatically to Shopify and succeeded in doing so.

How to connect a third party domain || Shopify Help Center

Domain is successfully added under Shopify setting > Domain.

But under shopify settings > Notification > Sender email. it shows as “Because your email domain hasn’t been authenticated, recipients may see your email sent via shopifyemail.com. For better brand recognition, authenticate your domain.”

Will this go away since I have added domain using automatic option in Shopify setting > Domain.

Or would I have do anything about the "your email domain hasn’t been authenticated"

Kindly help a fellow out, Thanks much.

Hey there, @PrabhuNxt . Thanks for taking the time to reach out to the Shopify Community with your domain question. It’s good to meet you!

You’ll want to ‘authenticate’ your domain by going to ‘Settings’ > ‘Notifications’, and then clicking the ‘Authenticate Your Domain’ button that’s there. Then, you’ll want to fill in the information that’s being requested in order to authenticate your domain.

Let me know if you have any difficulties with that! I’ll keep my eyes peeled for your reply!

Hi @Imogen_1 Thank you so much for replying.

I have attached sample record that I have made in my domain provider with the records provided by Shopify.

Kindly let me know if I am Indeed adding the 4 fields correctly as mentioned in Shopify, Also, Please let know If I should leave TTL field in Domain settings as it is.

Hey again, @PrabhuNxt . Thanks for taking the time to follow up with me!

Based on the information you’re showing in your screenshots, it looks like you’re following the directions to authenticate your domain, so you should be all set. Since I can’t authenticate your account, or access your third party domain provider account, I can’t say with 100% certainty that there aren’t extra steps you need to take, but feel free to follow up with me here if you run into any issues after setting these records up.

Hello,

Reading through this, should I put those CNAME records at the registrar or at the email hoster? In my case my domain is at namecheap, but I host my email at a different hoster.

(My issue is that contact forms are not received but bounced at my email provider)

Thanks,

Etienne

Hey there, @etienne21 . Thanks for following up on our Thread here!

So if you’re running into issues with your emails bouncing, you’ll want to make sure that your third party domain is connected to our DKIM and SPF records so your emails can be sent successfully. To do this, you would add those CNAME records to your third party domains settings.

In order to help with this, I have a help document here that includes the specific steps you’ll want to take in order to get things set up as needed.

Give the steps in that help doc a try, and then let me know here if you run into any issues, or have any questions!

Thanks for sharing this post, and these screenshots, it actually really helped me in this same scenario with GoDaddy, so appreciate it!

Hi there, I have created the DNS records on my host provider (Hostinger), but I have had domain authentication failing when I try to configure my notifications to be sent out using my shop’s email address.

Is there any way to troubleshoot? I am stuck because I simply wait 24 hours after hitting the button to confirm authentication, and then come back to find that the authentication has failed.

Hi bro did u find the solution? cause i have the same problem but i dont find any kind of solution online
