I sell a physical product, and video courses that teach people how to use it. The physical product is quite cheap, but the real value is in the video lessons where you can learn how to do amazing things with it.

People buy the physical product, and then I need to upsell them on the more expensive video courses. There are a million post-purchase upsell apps on the app store, but it seems like not ONE of them has the ability to autoplay a sales video on the upsell page, and really customize that page (like in ClickFunnels, for instance).

I need to explain to people visually WHY they need my video course, not just have the title of the product with a thumbnail, a brief plain text description, and expect them to buy it.

Is there ANY post-purchase upsell app that can do this?? Failing that, is there someone that can custom develop this for me? There’s no way I’m the only person with this problem.

Shopify’s standard “thank you” isn’t built for that level of customization, so you usually have two routes:

1. Post-purchase apps

  • ReConvert lets you rebuild the thank-you page with drag-and-drop sections—including video blocks (you can paste in a YouTube or Vimeo iframe with autoplay parameters). Most people find that it covers 90% of what they need without touching code.
  • Zipify OneClickUpsell (formerly Carthook) is another popular choice. You can design a funnel page, embed your promo video, and route customers through a one-click offer.

Neither will feel exactly like ClickFunnels, but both give you enough layout control and video support to make a compelling pitch.

2. Custom Post-Purchase Extensions (Shopify Plus)
If you’re on Shopify Plus, you can build a small custom app using Shopify’s Checkout UI Extension “post_purchase” point. That lets you inject any HTML/CSS/JS—so you can autoplay a full-screen video, custom form, button styles and all. You’ll need a developer to set up the extension and host your app, but it’s the most flexible, on-brand solution.

If you’re on a lower plan and ReConvert or Zipify don’t hit the mark, consider hiring a Shopify Expert for a small gig. They can often tweak those apps beyond their defaults or build a lightweight custom solution that sits on your thank-you page.

Question regarding option 2 though: Shopify Plus is way out of my price range, but I’m on a legacy Grow plan and I don’t know exactly what features it contains. I do have the option in Settings>Apps and Sales Channels>Develop Apps to Create an App, would that work if I get a developer to build and host it like you say? Or do you know how I could check if I can do that?

It depends if you want the video as technically “post purchase” - ie before the thankyou page, or on the actual thank you page. There are limitations with adding video to post purchase offers unless you’re using Shopify Plus.
