Hi everyone,
I run a Shopify store selling physical products.
We set the shipping cost of our products based on the total weight to avoid undercharging shipping.
For some reason these products aren’t being approved in Google Merchant Centre because of the following error: ‘Missing value [shipping]’
Does anyone have any tips on how to fix this error, aside from entering in the shipping details manually in GMC?
For example, if I changed the cost of shipping to price based rather than weight based, would that work?
Note: my products are heavy and can be very expensive to ship, so offering free shipping to customers is not an option.
Thanks in advance,
Dan
Set the shipping price in the feed to google to a flat price higher than the highest shipping cost you might charge. Google checks these prices from time to time and will disable your products if the value you supply is lower than the actual cost. Often they will take down all your products for several days killing your business. It’s a rubbish system that doesn’t take into account the different products someone might sell and the logistical issues faced with larger items. There’s no nice way to upload shipping rates and google only connects to a small selection of carriers. Typical Google incompetence, it has been broken like this for a least 5 years.

Thanks for the advice Matt.
So if I understand correctly you’re suggesting I set up the shipping costs manually in GMC and use the “worst case” shipping price for the product to ensure the pricing on my website never exceeds the pricing shown on Google?
Thanks again for your help, I’ve lost countless hours trying to find a solution without any luck.
That is correct. I think you can set rates for different products based off shipping label if you wanted to set up a few rates for items of different sizes.

Make sure when you add your shipping rates manually in Google Merchant Center settings. That you disable automatic shipping rates in Shopify Google Channel, to avoid your manual added details to be overwritten.
Yes you can set shipping rates based on price, but also on weight, assuming the products have weight values.
You can check if you have weight values in GMC by going to Products > all products > click on a product > view the final attributes.
Hi Matt,
Thanks for suggesting this, because that’s the exact issue I’ve got with my products. They all have different weights and therefore unique pricing based on weight. When you say shipping label, do you mean a physical label on my product? Or is there a way I can set up a unique shipping service in GMC for each product?
Thanks again!
In the Google’s Merchant Feed Specification there’s a field called shipping label. It doesn’t seem to be included in the Google App for Shopify as a field you can edit for products. There may be a way to do it. I haven’t been in charge of this at my employer for a while. It seems the people my employer hired to do this have just applied a flat $2000 rate to all our products even the free shipping ones

A possible solution would be to use custom labels to select different rates.

Hey Matt,
Finally figured out how to use the ‘shipping label’ option so that I could link an individual product to an individual shipping setting. Appreciate your support.
