I have a Shopify plus store and have implemented a strategy to apply a dynamic shipping rate based on the type of item the customer has added to their cart and also the number of those items that have been added to the cart.
This is done by implementing using the Shopify script editor. The script editor doesn’t allow us to change to value of shipping to the value greater than what it initially was so I’ve set the value to a very large value and applied a discount on it to change the value based on the items and their quantities in the cart. All of this is working fine on Shopify.
The problem with this is when I’m listing those products on Google Merchant center, these products show the very large shipping value that was initially set when a customer searches for that product.
Is there any way to implement the same complex shipping method and have Google display the correct shipping rate of that single item?

The shipping price, must be the price a customer pays for a single item. Importing complex shipping rates will not work, because Google Merchant Center (GMC) does not have such a system.
Google Merchant Center shipping settings can be set by using weight, size, price, number of items and destination.
While it seems very similar to what you want to achieve. You will need to replicate these conditions from Shopify into GMC. Learn more: https://support.google.com/merchants/answer/6069284#shipping-options
You can test the results by going to GMC > products > all products > click on a product > view the shipping rates. You can test different rates by entering a different location.
Can I override the shipping rates in GMC if they are being imported through the Content API or do I have to import the products manually using an excel sheet?
Yes you can setup the rates manually in Google Merchant Center, simply disable the automatic shipping setting in Shopify > Sales Channel > Google > Settings
I have thousands of products, can I override only a few products that I offer free shipping on since GMC does not pull the free shipping from the custom free shipping rate I set up in Shopify?
Yes you can, using supplement feeds for example.
