I want to use different WordPress Sites to sell items using various embedded “Buy Button” codes. The problem with that is during checkout if a customer clicks “return to shopping” or the logo it takes them to the Shopify “Online Store”. Since you can only edit the code of the checkout page on Plus Accounts, my solution is to just remove the “Online Store” app. You used to be able to do that by downgrading to “Lite” or “Starter” but there isn’t a link to do that anymore and custom service claims they can not. I even tried just removing the “Online Store” app manually a couple of different places but I get errors. Seems the engineers never changed over everything when those plans changed. What do I do?
Hey there, let’s see if we can troubleshoot this issue for you.
What are the errors you’re receiving when you try to remove the Online Store app? What plan are you currently on?
Removing the Online Store app can be done through your admin by clicking on Sales Channels on the left-hand side which’ll get you to this window:
From here, you can click Apps and Sales Channel Settings at the bottom which brings you to your full list of Apps and Sales channels. Here you can look for Online Store and click “Remove”:
Then simply follow the prompts and you should be able to achieve the removal of the Online Store sales channel.
Are these the steps you took that led to an error? If so, you may want to attempt from a different browser and see if that resolves the issue for you.
Let me know how it goes! Any additional details will assist me in pinpointing the issue.
There is a massive bug on your end. My previous account was a Basic plan and when you would try to remove it the site is still coded to have that trigger a downgrade to the Lite plan and notified you as sure. The program is that the Lite plan no longer exists and it throws out an error. The back office team tried to switch me and wasn’t able to. They weren’t any help. My only solution was to start a new account under a Starter plan. I did but found it created an Online store for me too. I try to uninstall it again and same error. Fix your site Shopify!!! I just want to be able to use your service on my existing sites. It shouldn’t be this difficult for one of the top e-commerce platforms.
Hi @buysomethingb ,
Thanks for the additional feedback about your experience with this. The best thing to do at this point would be to get in touch through our Help Center and connect with one of our Support Advisors for help. If you signed up for a Starter Plan, it definitely wouldn’t have the Online Store.
I would advise asking to open a support ticket with our Accounts teams for a deep dive to see what’s going on. You can start up a chat through this link here.
Please let me know if there is anything else I can assist with.
We did, they even escalated it to back office teams in both technical support and billing. Was told there was nothing they could do and I would have to delete my account and sign up for a new one under the Starter Plan. That hasn’t even worked yet because even though I just wanted a Starter Plan it signed me up for a regular trial to start. Of course that gave me another online store which support told me would go away when the trial ended. Shocker, it hasn’t and I’m waiting on support yet again. You would think this was some start-up not a company that is supposed to be one of the top e-commerce platforms.
Still struggling here. Pretty much seems there is no way of having Shopify without using their online store? Also means we closed our old account for no reason after being given incorrect information from support more than once. We also weren’t warned you can only do one product at a time with Buy Buttons because the Starter Plan removes all the other options and their code has a bug that stacks up the items all together when you try to manually add more than one. Ridiculous!
