Does anyone know of a good way to track inventory within inventory? For example, I want to track hardware needed to make a dog collar when one is sold. So if i add in all my hardware to track inventory, i want 1 buckle, 1 d ring, 6 rivets, etc to be removed when an item is sold. I dont know if this is possible or not but figured id ask! Thanks!
Hi @vgodenir , we recently released Fusion Inventory which helps with managing inventory for products that have different components. It uses a bill of materials to track what different products are made of.
To setup the app, you just need to add your materials inventory and the bill of materials for all products that you want the app to track inventory for.
In your use case for example, you would want to add the following materials:
Material Name | Quantity | Unit of Measure |
---|---|---|
Buckle | 20 | Pieces |
D-Ring | 20 | Pieces |
Rivet | 60 | Pieces |
Leather | 200 | Centimeters |
The bill of materials defines the materials needed to make a product. For a product like “Dog Collar - Small”, the bill of materials could be something like this:
Material Name | Quantity |
---|---|
Buckle | 1 |
D-Ring | 1 |
Rivet | 6 |
Leather | 15 |
A different product like “Dog Collar - Large” may perhaps use more leather.
The app takes care of updating product and material inventories after every order is placed/cancelled and also whenever you add new inventory for materials. It also takes care of syncing the products’ inventories from the app to Shopify.
The app was released recently and we’re still adding new capabilities and documentation but it will work perfectly for your use case. Feel free to email me as well if you have any questions or feature requests.
Hi @vgodenir ,
Thanks for reaching out to the Community!
If you haven’t done so already, I’d encourage you to check out the Shopify App Store. There are various different apps available that may allow you to achieve this. Kanata Cloud Inventory for example, is an app that may work for your business needs. I would however, encourage you to connect with the app developers directly for clarification on an apps capabilities to ensure it’s right for what you need.
Please let me know if you have any other questions.
Hi @vgodenir ,
This is Theodore from PageFly - Shopify Page Builder App.
Yes, Shopify can track inventory within inventory for your dog collar components!
Here’s how:
- Create a main product for the dog collar with variants (size, color).
- Treat hardware (buckles, d-rings, rivets) as inventory items, not separate products.
- In “Products > Inventory”, set stock levels for each hardware component needed per collar (e.g., 1 buckle, 1 d-ring, 6 rivets).
- When a dog collar sells, Shopify automatically deducts the required hardware from your inventory.
Best regards,
Theodore | PageFly
Hi @vgodenir ,
You can easily manage your inventory tracking with the Easify Inventory Sync app. Here’s a simple approach :
-
Create separate products for items like Buckle, Ring, Rivet, etc. These can be Draft products used solely for inventory tracking.
-
Set up a bundle inventory group including:
- Master product: Dog Collar
- Component products with quantities per bundle:
- Buckle: 1
- Ring: 1
- Rivet: 6
- …
-
Configure inventory tracking so that when a Dog Collar is purchased, the quantities of Buckle, Ring, and Rivet are deducted according to their quantities in the bundle.
Additionally, you can enable the feature to update the Dog Collar inventory based on the component products. This way, the available stock of Dog Collars will be automatically calculated based on the inventory levels of Buckles, Rings, Rivets, etc.
