Selling products as a set and individual - Inventory

Topic summary

A lingerie store owner seeks a solution for tracking inventory when selling products both as individual items and as sets (e.g., bra and knicker sold separately or together as the “Amy set”). Currently, they manually split inventory between singles and sets, which is cumbersome.

Proposed Solutions:

  • Variants approach: Create separate products for individual items and sets, using variants for sizes/colors. When a set sells, inventory for both components updates automatically.

  • Shopify Bundles app: Create a bundle linking the two products so inventory syncs across both individual and bundled sales.

  • Easify Product Options app: Build bundles using existing standalone products with unique SKUs. When customers purchase a set and select sizes, inventory for individual components adjusts automatically.

Current Challenge:

The store owner struggles with pricing—they want to sell individual pieces at their regular prices (e.g., $50 for sweater) but also offer them as a $99 set. They’re unsure how to handle inventory tracking when the same item sells both individually and as part of a set, especially when bundle components need $0 pricing.

EasifyApps suggests an upcoming solution involving product duplicates priced at $0 for bundles, with automatic inventory synchronization between originals and duplicates.

Hey Guys!!

I have a lingerie label and sell my products individually as well as sets - I am wondering if there is a way to track inventory so that if, for example, the Amy set (bra and knicker) sells - it updates the inventory for both the individual products?

Currently, I have my inventory set as half for singles and half for sets but its just a pain to keep track of this way

Thank you!

Have you try to use Variants?

This feature allows you to track the inventory for each specific option within a product.

To set this up, you’ll need to create a product for each option (the individual bra and knicker, as well as the Amy set). Within each product, you’ll then create variants for the different sizes and colors (if applicable).

For example, for the Amy set, you would create a product called “Amy Set” and add two variants: “Small” and “Medium”. Then, for each variant, you can set the inventory level.

When a customer purchases the Amy set, the inventory level for both the bra and knicker variants will be updated automatically, based on the quantity of the set that was sold. This way, you don’t need to manually adjust the inventory for each product separately.

Hello,

wouldn’t it be the easiest to create a bundle with the Shopify app?
You will create a bundle and add those two products to it.
If the bundle is sold, the inventory is updated for both the products.

Hi @wisteriaandwill ,

Your store requirements align with a scenario where you plan to offer the Sweater Set (comprising both the Sweater and Sweater Pant) and, simultaneously, sell the Sweater and Sweater Pant as standalone products, each with its unique SKU.

Utilizing the Easify Product Options app would be an optimal solution to seamlessly create a bundle (product set) using the existing standalone products :hugs: .

When a customer buys the Sweater Set and selects specific sizes for Sweater and Sweater Pant, the inventories of Sweater and Sweater Pant are automatically adjusted based on the purchase.

The setup process involves the following steps:

  1. Establish your new bundle product.
  2. Create custom options for the bundle within the app.
  3. Link these custom options with your existing products using the Add-on product feature.

Hi there, I have spent all day trying to set this up and chatting with people via help app

Issues we are having

  • How do we sell both individual pieces with a value set as $0 as a set with a price of $99?

  • How do we sell the pieces individually at as price of say (Sweater - $50) when inventory price is set at $0?

  • How do we track inventory for the sweater if we sold 1 individual and one as a set?

Thank you

Hi @wisteriaandwill ,

I understand the challenges you’re facing, which is why we’re working on a new app to assist merchants like yourself in overcoming these obstacles.

Here’s how our upcoming solution will function:

  • Instead of incorporating the current pieces as add-on products within the value set, you’ll create duplicates of those pieces, pricing them at $0.00. These duplicates will then serve as the add-on products for the value set, replacing the original items.

  • You’ll have the flexibility to freely set the price for the value set according to your preferences.

  • Our innovative app will facilitate seamless inventory synchronization between the original items and their duplicates.

Let me know your thoughts on this.
