I was using this report and mid may it just disappeared! I thought I’d just lost access to it but so angry to discover it just doesn’t exist anymore.
Topic summary
Shopify recently replaced its Finance Summary report with a redesigned version featuring charts and graphs, removing critical accounting data that merchants relied on for bookkeeping. The new format eliminates key information including:
- Gift card sales data and liabilities section
- Total Payments figure
- Printable format (especially problematic for iPad users)
- Clear breakdown of payment methods
Merchant Impact:
Users report the changes have disrupted daily accounting workflows. The visual charts are considered unhelpful for entering data into accounting programs like QuickBooks, and the browser print option produces text too small to read.
Workarounds Suggested:
- Search “payments” in Analytics > Reports for exportable alternatives
- Use “Payment by Gateway” report and customize it
- Third-party apps (Report Toaster, Report Pundit, Bookkeep) that recreate the old functionality
Community Response:
Merchants are frustrated at needing paid third-party apps for what they consider basic platform functionality. Some report Shopify Support recommended feature requests but offered no timeline for restoration. One user noted their feature request thread was deleted by Shopify.
Status: The issue remains unresolved with no official commitment to restore the original report format.
I would certainly sign!!!
I agree. What is the solution? We ALL need to come together!
Shopify has DESTROYED all the reports for their customers. When I try to print, I need a magnifying glass to read! I don’t need graphs that utilize costly ink. I need clear and accurate figures that are not skewed! I’m trying to sell my retail store and this change by Shopify has literally paralyzed my efforts in pulling detailed accurate reporting of my OWN FINANCIAL INFORMATION!!!
I’m convinced these forums exist only for apps & developers to flog their product
No one at @Shopify_77 has addressed this. Customer service can do absolutely nothing.
Anyone have ideas? Online petition can possibly be noticed? Pretty sad state of affairs that the company shuts down a basic report to its high paying customers and we get ZERO RESPONSE. Super disappointing.
Facebook post? threads? One that someone will respond to?
@Shopify_77 should not be allowed to promote 3rd party apps anymore. This is about providing basic services to paying customers.
SERIOUSLY. You take away what is maybe the most basic and necessary report WITHOUT any warning and now say oh go find it on your own elsewhere??! Not okay. BRING BACK THE F’N REPORT.
We need to do something. Shopify doesn’t even have a Google business review page in order for us merchants LOL
Online petition of sorts is our only option really unless anyone has ideas.
We should not have to go this route. Not even a little bit.
Shopify removed the most useful and basic of the finance reports without warning and now we have to go and search elsewhere for our Shopify data??? This is almost as bad as not proviiding merchants with their own inventory history adjustments!
THANK YOU. WELL SAID.
Hey @Shopify_77 care to answer at all???
The answer must lie in the apps. They make zero add-on money from providing the merchant with their own information right? So, make it more difficult or remove the information from the front-end altogether from the people that own that data; and voila, this means more $$$ for Shopify on the back-end through the apps.
I tried this app, it was a mess. I honestly think even the 3rd party apps can’t make sense of the reconciliation issues within Shopify.
QBO was the same.
Thank you! I agree 100% on a bookkeeping angle!
You need to [email removed] the ceos on twitter, linked in etc.
Figure out who the product lead is for the reports team silo and [email removed] them etc etc etc.
If the store is on a shopifyPlus plan and you somehow still have an MSM(yet another removed feature) that’s who’s inbox you should be nuking.
Corps processes have become perversely incentivized to ignore customer complains requiring public shaming to fix things they broke*.*
Or really have enough shares to maybe get a private meet, or enough for a question on an earnings call but when you got that many shares your probably not gonna care about things like features working.
Shopify opaqueness is and has been broken for merchants for a long time, the support system getting gutted is just another symptom.
But just as broken is how unconsolidated merchants are, give it a month or two and this topic will be a desert like so many others.
So guard your time wisely and stingily.
“It’s Basic!” Rhetoric,
Avoid ever framing something like this as “basic feature” is was an existing fundamental feature that was then broken.
You were paying for it now it’s gone, it is not “basic”.
Everything is a “basic feature” feature to someone on a platform with MILLIONS of merchants.
So “basic” is a silly argument to base a complaint on as it’s built on a ground of communal ego’s false expectations.
Search for forums for all the off the wall feature requests where the complainer thinks their specific needs are of the upmost importance and “basic”.
It’s makes it a dismissible argument for a billion dollar company.
Good luck your gonna need it.
Are there any plans to bring back old Finances Summary Report. We all hate the new layout especially our accountant. Does shopify not care that everyone prefers efficiency over visual appeal? I have never commented on anything in my life and felt the need to do so in this case.
If Shopify was truly vested in our interests and not their own, they’d pay
attention to this discussion thread and restore the Finance Summary Report.
Unlikely, but keep it up comrades.
I had opened a thread as a feature request to make the report printable to pdf again, like it used to be. Had lots of comments on it. Like many of my posts, Shopify has deleted it.
I will post on this one instead - requesting yet again that we get a printable option for our financial summary report. I further request that shopify show the loss or gain in cash rounding from the POS, like any actual real accounting would expect to show.
I further request, that since we have to now use our browser print option to print our daily sales, in order to transfer MANUALLY into quickbooks online (because Shopify brutally destroyed my entire accounting system when I set the app to transfer the data, so now it’s manually), please put the ACTUAL DATE on each financial summary report instead of ‘yesterday’ or ‘today’. That date doesn’t help me when I am looking at this report two months from now. I need the actual date. The only people who set things up like this are people who DO NOT USE THE SYSTEM.
I am so disgusted that my thread is gone, again, and fed up with Shopify.
Why should we have to pay for an app for a report that was taken away? More bait and switch by shopify? New business model - lure them in with things that work, take it away, make them pay for an app where Shopify takes a piece of the pie from the user and the app developer. Disgusting.
This is a BS lip service answer that is the first thing every single ‘customer service’ agent at Shopify is trained to say. Don’t hold your breath.
