Shopify Terminates new accounts without a reason?

Topic summary

A user reports that newly created Shopify stores are being immediately terminated upon opening, with no apparent violation. The termination email cites suspected illegitimate commerce practices and violations of Shopify’s Terms of Service.

Key Issues:

  • Accounts are closed instantly after creation, before any activity occurs
  • Appeals submitted months ago remain unanswered
  • Terminated accounts face 120-day payout holds

Possible Causes (per community response):

  • Shopify’s automated fraud detection system may be flagging accounts based on:
    • Geographic location
    • Payment information
    • Reused details from previously flagged stores

Suggested Action:
Review account creation details (email, payment method, IP address, business information) to identify potential triggers causing automatic flags. The discussion remains open with no resolution, as the original poster awaits guidance on preventing future terminations.

So everytime i open a new shopify store, the second i opened it i get this message that my store is terminated.

I did nothing wrong, i just opened an account.
And when i submit an appeal, shopify just never replies.

I have an other store which got the same issue, it was couple months ago and im still waiting for a reply.

This is the email i received:

My store has been terminated

We have terminated My store due to activity that is not, or that we suspect is not, a legitimate commerce practice. This type of activity damages consumer trust and is a violation of Shopify’s Terms of Service. As a result, we will no longer host Mijn winkel on Shopify and your account has been closed. The full amount of your store’s pending payouts are typically held for 120 days by the processor.

If you believe this decision was made in error, you can submit an appeal. This will initiate a review process to determine if your store can be reinstated.

How the appeal process works

  • Submit your appeal with the required documentation

  • We will review your appeal and may request additional information if needed

  • We will reach out to you via email to let you know the outcome of your appeal

That usually happens when Shopify’s automated system flags a new account before it’s even set up, it can be triggered by location, payment info, or even reused details from a previously flagged store. Submitting an appeal is the only official route, but the real fix often means adjusting what Shopify sees at the account creation stage so you don’t get flagged right away.

Have you ever checked if the same details you’re using to open new stores are what’s causing Shopify’s system to auto-terminate them? or can you explain how you create your account?
