Hello, I’ve received an email from this email address shopifythemereviewer@gmail.com asking that I need to update my store, can you please confirm this is a legitimate email from shopify ?

Yes absolutely legitimate. You should give them all your money, car, house and a firstborn child. 
But now for real, you know anyone can make a Gmail account and try to scam you. Shopify would never use Gmail and here is one page you should check:
“Shopify will only send emails from official domains such as @shopify.com, @email.shopify.com, @em.shopify.com, and @shopify-billpay.melio.com. Emails from public email services such as Gmail, Yahoo, Apple mail, or Hotmail aren’t from Shopify and should be treated as potential phishing attempts.”
If you search here or just Google you will find hundreds of topics with similar emails, like trying to pay for a free theme and so on. Scammers make up different stories just to get money or access your computer. And with that personal stuff and bank accounts. So take care.
