  3. What we are trying to achieve and what outcome we expect: More control and advice on scam stores. We buy trusting in Shopify, but te stores don’t have the same level. I got robbed trying tu buy from this company. Let’s stop this

Hi @Tricojose

Welcome to the community, but sorry to hear you got scammed.

If you have not already reported a merchant

Yes, absolutely agree, Shopify should get a system to scan stores, especially new ones, as there are a lot of stores. But also, I think merchants should be more aware of scams, educated, and do a bit more research before buying.

You said “We buy trusting in Shopify”, but that is what scammers use the most. You should not as you know now. But haven’t you heard of any online store scams?

And, I have to ask you, why have you trusted that store, besides it was Shopify? Wasn’t the price at least a bit too cheap? Too good to be true? Have you searched other stores and seen how much they sell just pants?

Had reviews? On top of the page says 5000+, but in the review block, a bit less than 400. And I guess you did try to email them after you made an order, but before, have you checked the address, maybe? It is the UPS center.

But you learned now how scammers work. And in the future, you will see some of the red flags, and hopefully will share to people you know so they can be careful.

And if you want more advice on scam stores:

Hi @Tricojose It is completely understandable to feel angry and upset right now. Being scammed is a terrible experience, and you are not the first person to fall for this. Many people see a nice-looking website built on a well-known platform like Shopify and assume it means the business is safe and verified.

The hard truth is that anyone can pay a small monthly fee to open a Shopify store, set up a fake shop, and disappear with your money. Shopify just provides the software tools to build the website; they do not guarantee that the person running the store is honest or that they will actually ship your items.

Moving forward, you need to look at new online stores with a healthy amount of doubt. Before buying from a store you have never heard of, search the internet for the store’s name plus the word “scam” or “reviews.” Look for a real physical address and a working customer service phone number on their website. Scammers usually hide who they really are. If a deal seems way too good to be true, or if the website looks rushed and is full of spelling mistakes, trust your gut and close the page.

Please do not beat yourself up over this. Scammers are very good at making their fake stores look professional and trustworthy. Take this as a harsh but valuable lesson in online shopping. Protect your financial information, always use trusted payment methods that offer strong buyer protection, and remember that a nice-looking website does not always mean a good business.

While I agree that stronger verifications are needed to stop scam stores, something Shopify is trying to balance, making the setup process too difficult could drive users to easier alternatives like Woo.

Hope this help
