"Subscription Policy" language is being used for partial payment app using selling plans

Topic summary

A developer reports that their app, Downpay, incorrectly displays “Subscription Policy” language during checkout and at the bottom of checkout pages, despite the app handling partial payments (not subscriptions) through selling plans.

Current workaround: The developer manually adjusts language for each merchant installation by renaming the subscription policy in theme content.

Issue scope:

  • The correct “Purchase Option Policy” appears on the Order Summary page
  • The incorrect “Subscription Policy” label appears during checkout when customers agree to vault payment

A Shopify team member acknowledged the issue and confirmed a ticket exists, but indicated it’s low priority with no clear timeline for resolution. The confusion affects merchant understanding of the payment terms being presented to customers.

Hey folks,

I’ve been manually adjusting language on shops that install our app Downpay because the “Subscription Policy” is used instead of “Purchase Option Policy” when agreeing to vault payment and also as the link at the bottom of the checkout page. Hoping someone could look into this since our app does not do subscriptions and it’s confusing our merchants.

I rename subscription policy in theme content to fix it, but it’s getting tiresome when just below it is the policy I wish it’d use instead. The right policy is displayed on the Order Summary page, so I think this is just affecting checkout.

Halp!

Thanks for bring this to our attention, Diana. And thanks for your patience waiting for a response. Stay tuned. I’m looking at this now.

There is a ticket for this, but I’m afraid it isn’t very high priority. It may be a while before we get to it.

You mention that it’s correct for the “Order Summary Page”, but when I looked it was also wrong there. Maybe I misunderstood what you meant.
