There was an old thread with this, and it was marked as ‘solved’ and closed, but it is obviously not solved and still deserves to be open with the ability for others to comment still. As Shopify only works on a complaints basis based on volume of complaints you need to leave it open to get people’s feedback.
We need the ability to edit orders. For example, client places an order online for local delivery. Staff mark it as ready for delivery. Client reaches out to say they want to change their order. FULLSTOP. Now what? You can’t even call in and get help because the support team you reach is hit or miss as to if anyone can actually answer it. I frequently know more answers about how the system works than the ‘help desk’ agents I get when I get frustrated enough to bother trying to reach them again.
If we mark it as fulfilled, then refund it, we get hit up with PayPal charges. That’s not fair or smart business. What’s the solution? This has been a problem for more than two years. Looking forward to some functionality that doesn’t cost us extra. Thanks.

Thank you for posting. We appreciate you bringing to our attention that the previous post was closed. We have now re-opened it to allow you to leave your feedback!
I absolutely understand the frustration of this feature still not being a reality. I have submitted your feedback to our developers on your behalf to add to the list of merchants with this complaint.
In the meantime, while not ideal, instead of refunding/canceling the original order, you can create a draft order with the changes. You will just need to account for the potential price difference by using a coupon code. Then, you will leave a note in both orders linking them to each other. While it’s not perfect, it does prevent incurring additional charges.
Thanks again for your feedback and for bringing our attention to the previous thread!
I agree, this is still an issue and has been for at least 3 years if you follow the threads back. Very frustrating that orders cant be edited and I still cant find a reason why. The only answer given is a work around by using a 3rd party app which just adds more cost to something that should be built in.
We’ve been building apps for Shopify for the past few months and just hit this limitation. We need to be able to edit orders slated for “local delivery” or “local pickup”. This is our #1 issue. I’d really love to hear why this isn’t prioritized. This thread has a lot of +1s over the past couple of years. And the return on effort seems very high unless I’m missing some product or engineering challenge.
Shopify’s business model is: sell you on what the sales rep says is a fully functional system, then you find out it is not. Instead they double dip by making money off of the end user (us) and on the app developers. They have very little motivations to solve the most basic of problems for their system.
Hi, can everyone who still wants this feature please go to https://help.shopify.com/en and contact support (just keep asking the bot to chat with a support agent)? Ask for the feature to be able to edit Local Delivery orders and ask them to log it as a merchant frustration.
I appreciate and agree that this feature would be extremely useful! That being said, our developers don’t list what and why certain features are prioritized. This one could be! However, we have no way of knowing.
Please know, however, we submit your feedback each time directly to our developers for consideration. Hopefully this is something that comes into fruition.
I think it is fair to say this has never been prioritized, it’s literally been brought up for years and years and there have been countless updates in that time and it’s never been added. Maybe someone on this thread could recommend a different platform that allows this simple task to work??
