Unusually high traffic from Germany with no conversion

I found a solution!

Use Cloudflare (free plan) and register your domain nameservers and turn on the bot protections!

Ask chatgpt for a step by step on how to do it - but it has worked for me so far!

For this app to work we had to use the paid plan. We can select the location from where the traffic was coming from and block it. It seems to have worked for the FalKenstein Germany issue. But we are still getting active carts from nowhere.

We are trialing the app for 3 days. Maybe cloudflare might be a better option. We will try this also and see what serves us better

Hi

How does cloudflare work with shopify. I was of the impression that cloudflare and shopify were already connected

Cloudflare has worked for me - no bots at all since I implemented it. (So far so good).

All I had to do was change some DNS nameserver on my GoDaddy account for my domain.

It took 5 mins, chatgpt is a great guide - I recommend trying it.

It was happening on BOTH of my shopify stores and now it’s completely gone.

aaaaaaaand as I wrote that - 20 live visitors from germany - bleep

Curious what you are seeing now? Are you still seeing this traffic? This just started happening to our website as well. I’m wondering if I should install Cloudflare on our site too? But I’m also wondering the source of the traffic and if it is indeed traffic that should be blocked…?

I’m getting no bots now.

I had to use cloudflare to block so many things with the firewall.

With the help of chatgpt telling me what to block.

Manage challenges for Germany, block seychelles, rate limiting, block known bots

it was relentless but it’s stopped now for me on both of my stores.

Oh and challenging/blocking ISPs was a very important one - chatgpt gave me the numbers to input and it worked!

I was getting so many views. I password protected my shop which in theory put it in holiday mode. I left it like this for about 6 hours and when I turned the password off the views stopped and within 24 hours it was all back to normal and didn’t have to download anything.

This has started happening to us today so massively throwing the visitor numbers. Uh! I would be nervous about using Cloudflare because from seeing it regularly on other websites it causes frustrating delays for customers (me in this case) and is unsightly and off-putting when it invariably flashes up for 1-5 seconds on the screen. For the record Shopify’s Fraud Filter is not an appropriate solution for this problem (as suggested above). We are continuing to look for a solution.

For whatever it’s worth, this traffic appeared to only last for about 3 or 4 days and then it appears to have gone back to normal. We aren’t seeing any spikes in traffic from Falkenstein Germany any longer. We didn’t implement anything new on our site and the traffic appears to have subsided on its own.

Good luck!

This worked for me! I was getting hundreds of views from Germany as well, for a few days, then I got truly worried enough to do something about it. I locked my website last night and the views have gone back to normal. I wonder what they want from us…

It seems this issue continues to affect different shops. Our store had 10,000 views over 3 days from falkenstein, germany. Having tried a number of solutions we eventually used blockify app to block all traffic coming from this location. The app seems to have worked. We have not experienced the issue since downloading the app. The only disadvantage is you need the premium plan to block visits by specific location.

I tried this password this morning, hopefully it’s a quiet day for us. So far the numbers are coming down. Gone from 980 to 7 in 10 minutes

I did the password protection option. It is in “Preferences”

I restricted access to the website for most of the day. I was up to 1.5k visitors for the morning. I am now back to my standard level of 20 a day.

This appears to be a fix that doens’t involve adding apps, paying for apps or paying experts.

I can’t confirm if this is a permanent fix, for now I am happy though.

I hope this assists someone

Hopefully, your suggestion will help me, I will password protect overnight as this is mostly when this traffic from Germany Saxony Falkenstein is coming in.

Thank you - fingers crossed

Exact same thing has happened to me too !!!

Thanks this is so helpful. I’ll put the password on next week when my sale is over.

It has been doing it once a month for months now and it is really boring. Skews all my figures.

Seeing this as well. Sometimes as many as 10 concurrent sessions all from the same location in Falkenstein Germany.
