website is not loading for some clients

Topic summary

A Shopify store owner reports persistent loading failures affecting numerous customers over several months, resulting in lost sales. Many users encounter blank pages regardless of device or traffic source, while the site appears functional to the store owner.

Key findings:

  • A Shopify expert identified lazy loading conflicts with certain browsers as the likely culprit
  • Safari users appear particularly affected, though confirmation is limited
  • Customer base is predominantly Italian
  • Shopify’s status page shows no platform-wide issues

Current obstacles:

  • Shopify Support declined assistance, citing the use of an external theme (Broadcast)
  • Broadcast theme support has been slow to respond
  • Store owner lacks coding expertise to implement fixes independently

Suggested solutions:

  • Community members recommended checking lazy loading configuration via existing forum threads
  • One responder suggested reviewing robots.txt settings, noting many pages appear “disallowed” (shared screenshot)
  • Disabling lazy loading was proposed, though potential performance trade-offs remain unclear

The issue remains unresolved while the owner awaits theme developer support.

We have been experiencing persistent issues with our Shopify store for a long time now. Some of our customers report that the website does not load at all, leaving them with a blank page, while for us, everything seems to work perfectly fine. This is not a case of poor internet connection on their side, as we have received similar complaints from dozens of customers over the past months. This means we are actively losing sales and customers due to this issue.

We recently consulted a Shopify expert, who analyzed our theme and identified a major issue with lazy loading. While lazy loading is intended to enhance UX and performance, in this case, it is conflicting with browsers and causing the website to load blank or very slowly for some users. The issue occurs regardless of whether customers access the site from a computer or a mobile device, from Google search or a Meta advertisement. For some, it works fine, but for many others, it does not.

Given that we are already spending additional money on troubleshooting, we need a concrete solution. We cannot keep losing revenue while paying for external help. Does anyone know if the lazy loading issue is indeed the cause of this problem?

Hi @Camiciecoraggio
If there is something that is down from shopify side then you can it here: https://www.shopifystatus.com/
OR
If there is some other issue then you can reach shopify support or your theme developer so that they can look into the exact reason
Thanks!

Hey there @Camiciecoraggio check out the marked reply here on how to solve lazy loading and see if it applies in your situation https://community.shopify.com/c/shopify-design/how-to-fix-lazy-loading-issue-with-product-images-on-my-website/m-p/2083734

I tried but from Shopify’s end everything works normal.

The costumers say that even if they use mobile or desktop nothing works. Mostly from people that use safari it does not work, but I’m not sure about this as many costumers don’t reply when I ask them some info on which browser they are on etc…

We have almost exclusively italian costumers, but we cannot be sure from which region they connect from.

Than you!

oh Shopify status everything works normal, that’s the problem! I reached out to both Shopify Support (which says they cannot do anything as the theme is an external theme , it’s broadcast) and the Broadcast support is quite long in replying, so I’m still waiting.

Thank you!

How can I try to disable lazy loading? What would be the other downsides of disabling it?

Thank you! As I’m not very good with code I’m scared to touch it as I would not want to mess anything up. Is there a way to solve this without doing that?

Thank you!

The issue regarding your shopify store is from the store setup process, If you can check the phot below, You will notice that most of the pages there are under DISALLOWED. This is to notify you that most of the pages in ones store are inaccessible and it causes loss in sales and customers. You need to ALLOW all your pages to be able to draw more Traffic, Customers, And also Sales etc.
