Issue: Multiple Shopify store owners report their websites being blocked with a âMalware and Phishing - Site is blocked because it is a known security threatâ error message.
Key Details:
The blocking occurs selectively: on specific networks (office WiFi) or devices, while working fine on mobile data or other connections
Affects both new stores and established ones
Store owners can still access their admin panels but cannot preview or visit the live site on affected networks
Potential Cause: One user traced their issue to DNS settings when using third-party domain providers (GoDaddy) alongside Shopify, involving incorrect DNS codes and MX records.
Current Status:
No clear, documented solution provided
One user resolved it through trial-and-error with DNS/MX record adjustments but cannot specify exact steps
Shopify support has been unhelpful, with one user reporting being directed to this very thread as a âsolutionâ
Some users were advised to hire IT security experts to trace and remove malware
Unresolved: The root cause remains unclear, and frustration with Shopifyâs technical support is evident.

Hello! New shop owner here! I just launched my store over the past weekend, and all of a sudden today I cannot see my store while connected to my office website or network. All the office computers have the same issue. I was able to see it when I took my phone out of the wifi.
Here is a screen shot of what we get when trying to see the page.
I am able to log in and work on the page just fine, but I cannot preview it, visit it on our browser, or visit it on mobile while on our network. I am worried this is happening to customers, and would like to know what to do.
Same issue here - my site isnât new at all but this issue occurs in certain locations on certain devices. Then off the wifi connection it is perfectly fine.
Welcome to the Shopify Community, and thank you for joining the thread.
I understand youâre reporting a âsite is blockedâ error message. To confirm, are you able to replicate this issue on your end?
The message âMalware and Phishing - Site is blockedâ appearing on websites across different locations and devices typically indicates that the website has been flagged by security systems as potentially dangerous. This can happen for several reasons. Sometimes, specific regions may have higher security protocols due to prevalent cyber threats in those areas. Websites might be blocked in these regions but accessible from others. Different devices may have varying levels of security settings. For example, a work computer might have more stringent security protocols compared to a personal device, leading to discrepancies in website accessibility.
Hi, did you manage to fix this issue? Iâm having same issues and have been told I need to hire a IT security expert to trace the malware, remove it and then report to the security companies that the website is safe. What did you do?
I believe I did fixed the issue, but it was an absolute mess. Iâm not
someone who understands anything with code or website settings, but the
issue was with my website DNS settings. This is where your site domain is
connecting and communicating with email servers and internet networks
online.
I use Shopify for my website content, Godaddy for my professional domain
(SeeingDreams.com), and then I have a Google workspace account for my
professional email (kyle@seeingdreams.com).
If you only use your Shopify website url and donât have a 3rd party
provider like godaddy for a domain name, you should automatically be using
Shopifyâs DNS and web verification. They should ideally help you out since
they operate it.
For me, the issue was coming from my website domain on godaddy not having
the proper DNS code and MX records. I honestly forget exactly what I did,
but I figured it out after awhile of utilizing AI to guide me. I wish I had
a solid solution, but I also never really got any help and had to do a lot
of trial and error.
I hope you figure this out, and am sorry youâre having the issue too! I
wish Shopify would help out a bit more and train their staff to understand
these issues across different companies!
The 5th, I kid you not, Shopify tech support person pointed me to this article saying they found a solution to the exact problem I am facing. Uhhh⌠the dude who wrote those article doesnât even know what he did to solve it! Why the eff is Shopify tech support acting like this is a solution to the problem. I ahve been facing this problem for weeks and Shopify does nothing to help. Worthless people.
