If the other party is a Shopify store, you can report it directly to Shopify. If it is not a website built by Shopify, you can report it to their website host or complain to their domain name registrar.
Yes, we reported that to Shopify several times (every day), but nothing has changed till now. Today, we received several claims from clients stating they received items from these website under our name, items that have no relation to what we sell. It is really, really sad to work hard on building a brand and have Shopify’s legal team do nothing for you.
Hi @sa111 . You should inform your customers first:
- Public Announcement: Publish a statement on your website and social media channels informing customers about the fraudulent website. Make it clear that the other site is not affiliated with your brand.
- Email Notification: Send an email to your customer list explaining the situation and advising them to only purchase from your official website.
Hi @sa111 ,
Dealing with a website that copies your content, including your logo and descriptions,to steal money, is frustrating and concerning. You can take several actions to address this issue:
-
Use Canonical Links: Ensure that your original content has canonical links pointing back to your website. This helps search engines recognize your site as the original source. More details can be found Yoast article and Google article about Canonicals.
-
Document the Infringement: Take screenshots and save copies of the offending website, including the copied content, your logo, and any other relevant material. Document the URLs and dates to support your case.
-
Contact the Website Owner: Send an email to the website owner requesting them to remove the copied content or at least add a link back to your original article.
-
File a DMCA Takedown Notice: If the infringing site is hosted in a country that adheres to the DMCA (Digital Millennium Copyright Act), you can file a DMCA takedown notice. This formal request to remove infringing content can be sent to the hosting provider or directly to the site’s operator if contact information is available.
-
Notify Search Engines: Report the copied content to search engines like Google using their DMCA complaint form. This can help prevent the copied site from ranking in search results.
-
Monitor Your Content: Use tools like Google Alerts to monitor if your content is being copied elsewhere. This can help you quickly identify and address any new instances of content theft.
-
Protect Your Artwork: If your logo and other artwork are being used without permission, you can also use copyright claims to have these removed. Contact the hosting company if the infringing website does not respond.
