Hi,

I need a suggestion for an app to integrate whatsapp with our Shopify account without connecting whatsapp with meta accoount and have something as helpdesk where we can assign messages to employees.

Is this possible?

And if we send messages as promotions, will we pay per message?

I haven’t found a way to use WhatsApp with Shopify without a Meta link, since the business API needs Meta. Promo messages usually come with per‑message fees from your provider.

The first reply is pretty much accurate — you can’t really avoid the Meta connection if you’re using the official WhatsApp Business API. That’s just how it’s structured.

Where you do have flexibility is in how you manage conversations.

If you’re looking for a helpdesk-style setup (assigning chats to team members, managing replies, etc.), that’s usually handled by third-party tools. They still connect through Meta in the backend, but give you a proper dashboard to work from.

On the pricing side — yes, you’ll generally be charged per message/conversation depending on the provider and region. Support replies can be cheaper, but promotional messages are where costs usually come in.

So realistically:

  • Meta connection → required
  • Team assignment/helpdesk → possible via third-party tools
  • Promo messaging → usually paid per message

There are two ways you can enable WhatsApp messaging on your store without having to go through WhatsApp Business API (though that’s recommended as you scale):

  1. There are apps that offer automated messaging on certain events (e.g. order notification, abandoned cart, delivery confirmation) through “Shared” WhatsApp numbers. They have the official WhatsApp Business API and they can use it to send messages for your store - they’ll mention your store name, support number etc. You’ll not be able to run marketing campaigns, but all shopify events based automation will be enabled.
  2. There are some other apps that login on your web.whatsapp.com and enable automation through that. This involves some risk of getting your WhatsApp number banned, but nevertheless these apps exist.
