Apple Pay, Shop Pay, PayPal, credit cards…
Do you notice a difference in which checkout option gets completed the most?
Topic summary
Digital wallets consistently outperform traditional credit cards in checkout completion rates.
Top performers:
- Shop Pay and Apple Pay lead due to one-click convenience and saved payment details
- PayPal remains popular, especially among customers hesitant to enter card information directly
Key insight: Speed and reduced friction drive higher conversion. The fewer steps required, the lower the drop-off rate.
Traditional credit cards still function adequately but show noticeably higher abandonment compared to express checkout options.
Consensus: All major payment methods (PayPal, Shop Pay, Apple Pay) perform reliably when properly supported in your region, with minimal difference between them—the critical factor is offering quick, streamlined options that eliminate manual data entry.
Hi there @merakicommerce among the reliable ones such as PayPal and shop pay that you’ve mentioned, I do not reckon there’s a substantial difference as they are all highly effective (as long as your location supports all the options adequately)
From my experience, Shop Pay and Apple Pay usually convert the best because they’re quick and don’t make people re-enter all their details. PayPal comes in handy too, especially for folks who don’t want to pull out their card. Regular credit card checkout still works fine, but you’ll see more drop-offs there compared to the one-click options. Basically, the easier and faster it feels, the higher the completion rate.
Yes digital wallets like Shop Pay, Apple Pay, and PayPal usually have higher completion rates since they’re faster and require fewer steps compared to entering credit card details manually whole steps.
