An Australian Shopify store owner is experiencing repeated payment failures for their monthly invoices despite trying multiple credit cards from different banks and family members. The issue has persisted for weeks, with payments failing every three days.
Shopify support claims it’s a bank issue but shows only one payment attempt on record
Switching from AU$ to US$ currency didn’t resolve the problem
No escalation path available; told no managers/supervisors exist
Store owner fears losing their business
Resolution Found:
The original poster eventually solved it themselves by swapping the order of payment methods (PayPal vs. credit card) as the primary payment method multiple times. They discovered PayPal was attempting payments despite the card being set as primary, and PayPal wouldn’t accept AU$ payments.
Ongoing Issue:
Multiple other users report experiencing identical problems, suggesting a systemic Shopify billing issue rather than isolated incidents. Some users are considering migrating to alternative platforms. The discussion remains open with others seeking similar solutions.

I’m In Australia, have had our store for quite a few years
This months shopify invoices just keep getting rejected no matter how we try to pay them. We have tried multiple credit cards, multiple accounts and even borrowed family members credit cards, ( different card provider, different financial institution). They are all failing. We are at our wits end.
The “help” we have received from the help centre has been absolutely dire.
I just dont know what to do. I have tried to pay this bill manually dozens of times and every three days it fails.
They claim its the bank but then also claim theres only one record of any payment attempt.
Apparently theres no way in which an issue can be escalted, as I have formally requested that multiple times. I have been told there are no managers/supervisors.
We did have the currency in AU$ but changed back to $US, to no avail.
I just dont know what to do. I cant get anywhere with them
I dont know what I can do and i fear loosing my business. Can anyone help?
Check Payment Details: Double-check the payment details you entered, including the credit card number, expiration date, CVV code, and billing address. Ensure that all information is accurate and up to date.
Sufficient Funds: Make sure that the payment method you used has sufficient funds or credit available to cover the payment amount. Insufficient funds can cause a payment to fail.
Contact Payment Provider: If you are using a specific payment provider or service concrete floor grinder, such as a credit card company or online payment platform, reach out to their customer support. They can help troubleshoot the issue and provide information on why the payment failed.
Update Payment Method: If your payment method has expired, been canceled, or is no longer valid, update it with a new payment method that is active and has sufficient funds. Follow the instructions provided by the payment provider to update your payment information.
I am having the exact same issue every month. To the point that my store becomes frozen despite having appropriate funds in the account. I have tried to talk to Shopify about this as it is clearly a Shopify error but to no avail. I have had a store for 6 years and never had an issue with automatic or manual bill payment until this year. Did you find a resolution for this problem?
after Weeks of stress with no help from the “gurus”, I solved it
This was my solution-
Print off one of your failed invoices
I’ve got it set to $Au, and PayPal won’t accept payments in PayPal.
I saw it attempting constant payments from PayPal, despite the card being
the principal method of payment.
I just swapped them around multiple times and hey presto!
We had also tried with family members card to no avail..
Honestly Shopify were absolutely useless.
One even told me I could rectify it by paying the bill!
Hi Fiona_Krawczuk
I’m really sorry you’re going through this—it sounds incredibly frustrating, especially with your business on the line.
Given how many payment methods you’ve already tried, it definitely seems like something deeper in Shopify’s billing system or fraud checks might be blocking the transactions, rather than an issue with your bank or cards.
A few things you could try (if you haven’t already):
Contact via Twitter or Shopify Community Support: Sometimes reaching out on Shopify’s Twitter/X (@ShopifySupport) or publicly tagging them can trigger faster responses. Start a New Chat or Request a Callback: When chat support doesn’t escalate properly, try opening a new chat, be calm but firm, and specifically ask for a “Billing Specialist” or “Account Risk Team.” Try Shopify Partner Support (if applicable): If you’re working with a developer or partner, they might be able to escalate on your behalf.
Moreover, if you’re looking for a reliable solution to send official invoices or offer invoice-based payment options to your customers, I recommend using the Shopify invoice payment app.
