Why are my two collections showing different filters?

Can someone pls help me why am not getting same filters for my two different collections as in the pictures attached

Hey there, @BBL2 . Thanks for posting this question in the Shopify Community! I hope you’re doing well today!

Thanks for those screenshots! Just taking a look at this quickly, it appears that one screenshot shows a collection (the image with the heading ‘Agriculture and Fishing’) and other screenshot is your ‘All Products’ page. Depending on your theme and tags, these pages may not show the same filters, or filters at all! I would love to confirm this for you.

If possible, please provide me with a link to your store so I can test this functionality. I’ll keep my eyes peeled for your reply!

Thank you Sir

Hey there, @BBL2 ! Thanks for following up with me! I did a bunch of digging here in terms of what may be causing this, and I have some information prepared for you here.

First, I visited your site and confirmed that the filter was showing up on all of your collection pages, except for your ‘All Products’ collection page. At first, I thought this was because your ‘All Products’ page was our default catalog page, but it looks like you have a custom collection made for your ‘All Products’ collection, so we know this isn’t the cause.

I then did some additional digging and found some information regarding filtering and the newer theme versions that have been released. This is largely known as ‘Online Store 2.0’. With this upgrade, filtering became a theme-supported function, but does have some limitations. With this info, there are two potential causes for this issue:

  • It could be that you’re using a vintage theme, so one that wasn’t upgraded to 2.0. You can confirm this by going to 'Online Store > Navigation.’ If you see a blue box above your menus saying something like ‘this theme doesn’t support filtering’, then we can say this is the likely causes. However, I don’t think this is what you’re experiencing.

OR

  • Online Store 2.0 has a filtering limitation within collections depending on the number of products within the collection. If a collection has more than 1000 products, the filtering options will not appear. While I was exploring your store and your collections, I had the chance to see many of your products, and it’s very likely you have more than 1000 products in your ‘All Products’ collection. Doing the math for how many products you show on the first page of the collection (24), multiplied by the number of pages the collection has (75), you have close to 1800 products within that collection. If you don’t see the blue box I mention in my other potential cause, then we can confidently say that this is the culprit.

If it turns out that the cause is the collection having more than 1000 products, there won’t be much that can be done directly by Shopify to remedy this. I can absolutely make a feature request to see the limit increased, but won’t be able to discuss a timeframe for such a thing being implemented. Thankfully, that ‘All Products’ page has a ‘sorting’ feature that acts as a pseudo-filter in the absence of the true filtering tool.

I recommend taking a look in your ‘Online Store > Navigation’ section of your admin to see if you see that messaging. If you do, or do not, feel free to follow up with me here and let me know and we can go over next steps to either upgrade your theme, or do the feature request.

Sir,

Thank you so much for your help, I appreciate it very much. I don’t see the blue box as you said. I very much instrested on your next advise and also for upgrading the theme because it might also help me solve another issue that im also trying to fix. That is I wanted to add to all my products the “Add to Cart” function because currently I dont have it but only when click on an individual product. We might kill two birds in one go.

Look forward to hear from you.

Cheers

Hey again, @BBL2 !

Thanks for checking for that box! Since you mentioned that you didn’t see the box, we can confidently say that you’re using a 2.0 version of your theme. This means that the filtering issue is 100% caused by the ‘All Products’ collection having more than 1000 products within it. This won’t be able to be adjusted, since that’s a cap limited by the filtering system the Shopify backend uses. There is no great need to update your theme, as changing your theme to a different 2.0 theme won’t remedy this issue. What I can do instead, is submit a feature request on your behalf to have that 1000 product limit increased, so folks can use that filtering function within that specific collection. Though I can’t provide a timeline on when that limit may be changed, you can rest assured that I will let the Product Team know about the request.

I checked out your product pages and do see the ‘Add to Cart’ button there, so I believe you’re looking to add another ‘Add to Cart’ button, but this would be to your collection pages underneath the product images. Is this correct? Some themes do include this functionality, but switching a store to a new theme is no easy task, as you’ll have to redesign your homepage, re-add assets, and any custom coding to that newer theme. Instead, my recommendation would be to use a third party application to achieve this functionality. I have a few suggestions for you here:

A third party app would allow you to add these desired buttons without needing to do any coding yourself, and without having to purchase, download, and build out, a brand new theme. If you’re using a free Shopify theme, our design team may also be able to help out. If you like, you can follow up with me here and let me know what theme you’re using, so I can determine if we’d be able to help out directly.

Another option to consider would be a Shopify Expert. These are folks that you can hire to assist you with anything from marketing your business, to coding your store! We often refer folks to these freelancers when particular requests are outside of our scope of support. If you get back to me with a theme name we can’t support directly, you can reach out to these folks and see if they can help!

Thank you so much. Appreciate this community esp you Imogen. GB and have a wonderful day

You have a great day as well, @BBL2 ! If you ever need anything else, just let us know!
