Why can't I activate PayPal Express checkout?

Hello, I can’t activate paypal Express checkout, once I click the button, i am sent to the paypal regular sign in page. I tried inkognito, cclearing up all my cache. Did not help!

When you’re setting up PayPal for your Shopify store you’ll be taken to PayPal’s website to login and give them the necessary permissions to connect to your store. So it sounds like what you’re seeing on your end is the expected process, feel free to cross-check the full process and follow the step-by-step instructions on our guide here.

If you’re seeing an error message on your end however, you can reply to this thread with a screenshot of it and we can take a look at your next steps from there.

Here’s how you can fully connect PayPal to Shopify:

  1. Log in to your Shopify dashboard
  2. Scroll down and open Settings
  3. Select Payments in your Shopify settings
  4. Within the PayPal module, click PayPal Express Checkout
  5. Select Activate in your PayPal Express Checkout settings

From here, you will be directed to log in to your PayPal account

  1. Enter your PayPal login email address and password
  2. Select I Give Permission
  3. Return to Shopify settings
  4. Enable automatic or manual payments (Learn more)
  5. Check your email and follow any prompts you receive from Shopify or PayPal to finalize the process.
