Why can't I purchase a basic plan due to payment method issues?

When trying to purchase a Basic Shopify Plan but it trows me ‘You tried to add a payment method too many times’. I guess I’ve tried too many times to add a payment method and now it’s blocked.
Can somebody pls help me to unblock it? Thanks.

I think it would be better if you reach out to Shopify’s customer service and see if they can lift that limit.
Meanwhile an alternative to do that is downloading the Shopify app on mobile and try adding your payment method there.

This error message may occur due to the payment method not meeting the card requirements. I’ll share the payment card requirements below for better visibility:

Payment card requirements:

  • Must be a debit card or a post paid credit card.
  • Must be co-branded with Visa, Mastercard, or Amex.
  • Must be capable of accepting international charges in USD.
  • Must be capable of making online purchases.
  • Must be capable of accepting recurring billing.
  • Must enter a billing address and details the same as what your bank has on file.
  • Must not have a restriction on how much the bank will allow to be processed at once.

When trying to add a new payment method to a store too many times you may see this error message populate. If you’ve already contacted your bank to ensure there are no issues on their end, I recommend reaching out directly to our support team. The reason I suggest this is that our support team can authenticate your account and have a closer look to see if the card attempts can be reset.
