Why does my dropshipping product show as sold out on my e-commerce site?

Topic summary

A Shopify dropshipping store owner encounters products displaying as “sold out” despite using CJ Dropshipping, which shouldn’t require manual inventory management.

Root Cause Identified:

  • Shopify maintains its own inventory tracking separate from dropshipping apps
  • Product variants may be set to zero stock in Shopify’s backend
  • Inventory sync between CJ Dropshipping and Shopify may not be properly configured

Suggested Solutions:

  • Enable “Continue selling when out of stock” option for each product in Shopify’s product settings
  • Verify inventory sync settings between CJ Dropshipping app and Shopify
  • Review product variant stock levels in Shopify backend

Current Status:
Multiple users report the same issue remains unresolved. One user mentions the “continue selling” button won’t submit, suggesting potential technical glitches. The thread contains requests for help in multiple languages but lacks a definitive solution.

Secondary Question:
The original poster also asks whether offering only PayPal (without Shop Pay) would deter customers, as their Jamaica-based store cannot access Shop Pay. This remains unanswered.

Hello everyone,

So, I am taking a venture into the world of e-comm and I’ve decided to go with Dropshipping. I have gone and found a product I want to sell and I’ve setup the dropshipper’s app with my shopify store and connected the product, however, when I view the store from the customer’s point of view, the product shows as sold out. Which is weird, as I don’t have any inventory to be “sold out” from. I had also watched a few videos, a udemy course and a shopify webinar and there’s nothing at least from what I’ve seen, that helps with troubleshooting this particular problem. I am wondering if I need to, on shopify’s end, set the stock count to like 100, or should I not have to do that considering I am using the dropshipping method?

I also have another unique problem. I live in Jamaica, so my store is based in Jamaica, but doing that doesn’t allow me to setup Shop Pay. Will I be ok if my customers had to strictly use PayPal as the transaction option? Or is that something that would deter a would-be buyer?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am a quick learner and eager to succeed in this!

Cheers!

The product only shows as out of stock if the product varients are out of stock. You can also set continue selling if it’s out of stock for each product on product page in the backend.

Understood. I don’t think it’s out of stock on the CJ Dropshipping website, but I will select the option to continue selling if it’s out of stock. Thank you for that.

Actually the Shopify has its own inventory tracking and it yes you may have
an option to sync the inventory with CJ Dropshipping, which will sync the
inventory with the seller directly.

I’ll go and look for that option. I’m certain I did exactly what the video on the CJD site said, however I’ll go over it one more time to be certain.

Hi,

I pressed on continue selling in Shopify, but it didn’t submit it, what do you think is the problem for that?
