Why Does My Website Have A High Bounce Rate?

My Website: https://jump4pets.com/

For the past 2 weeks I have been running both Snapchat and Pinterest Ads to my drop shipping pets store. So far the ads have performed very well based off the metrics, the CTR for most of my ads is around (3%) and my CPM’s are quite good on average.

Now the problems I am currently facing at the moment is very high bounce rates on my website (80%-90%) and very low session duration times that are (well under 2 minutes) on average. I have tried numerous things to optimise the site however I still find myself facing this annoying issue. I would greatly appreciate if someone could please help me sort out this issue on my website.

Hi :waving_hand:

It’s tough seeing such high bounce rates with great ad performance.
There are few areas you can check

  1. Performance
I have run some tests and found that the mobile version of your website is not optimized well. Based on metrics If a website load time exceeds more than 3 seconds, then you can expect roughly 50% of your web traffic to leave

  2. See if the ad content matches well with the website content copy.

  3. The UI can be imporvised.

  4. Also try adding tools like Hotjar that can help understanding the user journey better and from there you can take better actions.

Let me know if my feedback helps.
Thanks.

our site looks great, but those high bounce rates and low session times can be frustrating. Here are a few quick tips:

  1. Loading Speed: Ensure your site loads quickly. Slow load times can drive visitors away.
  2. Clear Value Proposition: Make sure visitors immediately understand what your site offers. A clear, engaging headline and subheadline can help.
  3. User Experience: Simplify navigation and ensure it’s easy to find products. Too many pop-ups can be distracting.
  4. Mobile Optimization: Ensure your site is fully optimized for mobile devices since many users might be visiting from their phones.
  5. Engaging Content: Use high-quality images and engaging content to keep visitors interested.

If you’ve already tried these, it might be worth A/B testing different landing pages to see what resonates best with your audience

Hi @Daniel963 ,

I am from Mageplaza - Shopify solution expert. I would be happy to review your website and provide feedback on the performance.

Here are my recommendations to improve your conversion rate:

Your website isn’t effectively converting visitors into buyers despite your advertising efforts. Without seeing your ads, I can’t offer detailed recommendations on your landing page. However, here are some suggestions from Databox that you might find useful. You can read more in their article.

“When the click-through rate (CTR) is high but the conversion rate is low, it usually indicates an issue with the landing page. This is often due to a lack of effective calls-to-action (CTAs). To address this, create a clear CTA, such as a “Buy Now” or “Read More” button. This CTA can be a clickable image with a small amount of text or a simple button.”

1. Monitor your cart abandonment rate

A high cart abandonment rate can be particularly frustrating for your business, especially after investing significantly in attracting visitors to your site. This issue indicates that many potential customers are deciding not to complete their purchases, contributing to low conversion rates.

To address this, you can remind customers about the items left in their carts and encourage them to complete their purchases by:

  • Email Reminders: Send emails to customers who abandon their carts, reminding them of their items.
  • Incentives: Offer a discount or free shipping to motivate them to finalize their purchases.
  • For more detailed guidance, refer to an article from the Shopify Help Center

Besides, here are some suggestions regarding the UX/UI:

2.Banner

The current banners are too general, you should use a high-quality, eye-catching hero banner with a clear value proposition and a strong call-to-action (CTA). Highlight any ongoing sales, new arrivals, or bestsellers. Below is a reference:

3. Search features

You should make larger product images, show price and discount information, including blog search, collection search, etc functionality to enhance search bar. This will help customers find their needs quickly, enhancing their shopping experience. Below is a reference:

4. You may also like

  • You should add ATC, add to wishlist, quick view buttons and make discount label more noticeable to encourage customers to buy your products

I hope some of my suggestions are helpful, feel free to give me any feedback.

Good luck!

Hi Daniel,

Do you track which products are generating views (and no add to carts), which products have low (or high) conversion or abandonment rates. This visibility helps you as store owner to be able to take actions in improving the product offer, the pricing or other factors that in the end would result in an improved overall conversion rate. The devil is in the details, its important to understand your users and how they interact with your products.

I can recommend, to any store owner who is looking to improve conversion rates to not lose sight of this aspect. Take a look at our demo (no signup needed) to have a better impression about what kind of measurements can be used to track, understand and ultimately improve your product offering and of course your store performance: https://demo.datma.io/shopify/reporting/metrics/1416 - this a direct link to a reports with all products with conversions, add to carts, abandonment rates, but feel free to look around.

Best,

Hi @Daniel963 ,
Thanks for reaching out to the community. I’m Lindsey from BON: Loyalty Rewards Referrals.

Your website looks decent to me, as it was pretty user-friendly. I have also tried loading your site on several devices, and it worked perfectly. So I guess bad UX and loading speed were not the main reasons to your concerns.

What I can suggest you to improve your website performance is that:
1. Change a more action-encouraged CTA

What you really want your customers to do is to buy or make a purchase, not just to learn more about your brand. I think it will be more attractive if your turn your CTA to “Shop now”. This will encourage them to explore your products.

2. Create a sense of urgency with limited-time offers
Highlight that your discounts are available for a limited time only. This urgency can motivate customers to buy before the offer expires.

3. Display your free shipping discount & free gifts outside the product pages.

  • Don’t hide them in the product pop-ups. It will be much harder for your customers to find their discounts.

4. Improve website content

  • Create high-quality, engaging content that is relevant to the target audience. Use visuals, videos, and infographics to make the content more appealing. Regularly update the content to keep it fresh and informative. Specifically, beside providing blogs content about general information of dogs and cats, you can try giving more related contents like recipes for treats, soup pastes or DIY houses and toys for your pets. This is also a good way to cross-marketing the products that you are selling.
  • Craft Compelling Meta Descriptions: Accurately reflect page content in meta descriptions to manage visitor expectations and decrease bounce rates caused by irrelevant search results

5. Optimize SEO
By focusing on these SEO strategies, you can significantly improve your website’s ranking, attract more organic traffic, and ultimately grow your business. Ensure that the site is optimized for search engines to attract the right audience. Identify and use relevant keywords that your target audience is searching for. Tools like Google Keyword Planner can help you find the best keywords for your content. You can also consider optimizing your website’s content, meta tags, headers, and images to ensure search engines can easily understand and index your pages. This includes creating high-quality, keyword-rich content that provides value to your audience.

Hope this would help you with improving your website performance and tackle your concern about bounce rate. Looking forward to hearing good updates from you ^^ If you find this helpful, please let me know by giving me a ‘LIKE.’

Cheers,
Lindsey
