Why is my contact form not sending emails?

JackofFive,

Your current TXT record is;

v=spf1 include:_spf-eu.ionos.com ~all

please change this to

v=spf1 a mx include:_spf-eu.ionos.com include:shops.shopify.com ~all

this allows the shopify website to send emails.

then wait 48 hours for the world to update ( google dns propagation ), then test the contact form, if it works YAY, otherwise contact shopify supoport ( chat is faster ) and ask if your domain is on the “supression list” and ask to be removed. You only end up on the “supression list” if emails keep bouncing back to shopify from your email provider ( something is wrong with your setup, most likely your current DNS settings ), so shopify gives up on sending emails ( from your contact form ), and just ignores contact enquiries, and shopify doesn’t notify the store !!!

ALSO, consider
https://dmarcian.com/yahoo-and-google-dmarc-required/

you have not done the DMARC setup, this requires DKIM too. Chat to your email host, new email filtering that began in February 2024 from Google and Yahoo ( most likely Microsoft ) hosted emails will reject / ignore all emails coming into Google / yahoo / Microsoft from domains without DMARC. You probably dont even realise your emails are being ignored to these clients yet.

Also, make sure you have Shopify Store Dash >> Settings >> Notifications and you have done the authentication for the sender emails in your store to send as your email address ( then customers can reply directly to you ), otherwise it sends as “shopifyemail” or something and customers reply to a black hole ( you never get those emails back ).

Let me know if you need a hand and you can hire me, this is all above the scope of free support in the forum.

Happy to help

Hello Dan!

I’m having the same issue with my gmail. I’m pretty sure it’s something with my DNS settings but I haven’t had any success. Could you possibly take a look for me?

Ebaniewilson,

Replace

v=spf1 ip4:23.227.38.32 include:_spf.google.com include:_spf.perfora.net include:_spf.kundenserver.de ~all

with

v=spf1 a mx include:_spf.google.com include:_spf.perfora.net include:_spf.kundenserver.de include:shops.shopify.com ~all

this allows the shopify website to send emails.

then wait 48 hours for the world to update ( google dns propagation ), then test the contact form, if it works YAY, otherwise contact shopify supoport ( chat is faster ) and ask if your domain is on the “supression list” and ask to be removed.

Hi Dan,

That did the trick! Turns out, I was on the suppression list. Chat representative handled it for me in less than 15 minutes. Thank you so much!

we are also experiencing the contact us page not working issue

Hey, @aaamodelsupply .

Thank you for joining this thread.

We’d recommend looking over our guide on Setting up your email and following the steps to authenticating your third-party domain to see if that can help resolve the issue. If the problem continues to persist and you’re using a Shopify-supported theme, then it looks like we’ll need to access your account in order to resolve this issue. While we’re unable to provide account-specific support via the Shopify Community, we’d be happy to continue assisting you through live chats. Simply visit the Shopify Help Center and login to your account to create a support request.

If you have any other questions on this topic, then don’t hesitate to let us know.

Hi Aaamodelsupply,

For your setup, it looks like you are self hosting emails, so change

v=spf1 a mx include:websitewelcome.com ~all

to

v=spf1 a mx include:shops.shopify.com include:websitewelcome.com ~all

also add a TXT record

_dmarc.aaamodelsupply.com TXT v=DMARC1;p=none;sp=none;adkim=r;aspf=r;pct=100;

then wait 24 hours for this update to get around the internet.

then open a live shopify chat and tell them you have made recent changes to your DNS records. Tell them to check the contact form is sending successfully and that your website is not on the “supression list”.

When they check live, shopify can see if the email leaves shopify server and if there is any error message. If they get an error message after you have confirmed that the contact form email has been sent, then let me know what the error is now. But it

is fine once shopify removes you from the supression list.

Let me know either way,

and smash the likes on all my posts here too !!!

If you need an other shopify work, just sing out,

tnx, Dan the web man :slightly_smiling_face:

Dear Dan @GCWebTeam ,

Hope you’re well! I’m having the same issue with my store, www.schermuit.nl (pw = Test1!).

Would you maybe be able to help me out too?

Thank you and kind regards,
Philip

Hello Philip,

Make these changes to your DNS
your current A record for “www” is

www.schermuit.nl A Record 23.227.38.74

This ( above ) can be removed,

the non “www” A record replaces this, you have already.

schermuit.nl A Record 23.227.38.74

your current TXT record is

v=spf1 include:_spf.google.com ~all

Edit to make this

v=spf1 a mx include:_spf.google.com include:_spf.google.com ~all

You are minimum DMARC compliant already too, yay !!!

Then wait 48 hours for the world to update ( google dns propagation ), then test the contact form, if it works YAY, otherwise contact shopify supoport ( chat is fastest - recommended ) and ask if your domain is on the “supression list” and ask to be removed.

Thru chat, they will make this change ( remove from surpression list ) and you can test for again immediately while they are in the chat. If it works - YAY !! If not, ask them for the error report, or bounceback message, and let me know what it says ( PM or direct contact )

You only end up on the “supression list” if emails keep bouncing back to shopify ( something is wrong, most likely DNS settings - fixed with above ), so shopify gives up on sending emails ( from your contact form ), and just ignores contact enquiries, and shopify doesn’t notify the store !!!

Let me know how you go, smash the likes here on all my posts !! :slightly_smiling_face:

Anything else you need with your Shopify store, happy to help out ( paid work ), contact me directly.

Hi Dan,
Amazing work you’re doing here. Any chance you could have a look at interiortonic.com? No trace of form submissions in our store email or any notifications being sent to users.
Thanks in advance

Hahah no worries Dan @GCWebTeam , thanks!!

I’ve updated the txt file to: v=spf1 a mx include:_spf.google.com include:shops.shopify.com ~all

However, I’m not quite sure what you mean by the “www” and non “www” A Record. I also can’t find this number 23.227.38.74 in the Records. But I do find an A record with another number.

Am I looking in the right place?

Cheers,
Philip
