Why won't my page load in the editor due to URL redirection issues?

This page is not compatible with the editor due to one of the following issues

Page is redirecting to an unsupported URL

Page failed to load due to an error

Issue: Failed to load the page

Page is redirecting to an unsupported URL

If your storefront includes code that redirects users to URLs that aren’t connected to your shop, then verify that the redirect has been deactivated when you visit the theme editor.

For example, this type of redirect might be added to a storefront to direct customers to different Shopify stores depending on their location. This type of redirect code could exist in either your theme or an app that you installed.

To ensure your redirect doesn’t interfere with the editor experience, use a reference to the window.Shopify.designMode variable in JavaScript to deactivate the redirect when you visit the theme editor. This variable is set to true when the storefront is loaded in the editor, and false when it isn’t. please assist

Hi, @Irvin19 .

Welcome to the Shopify Community, and thanks for sharing your question.

I understand you’re receiving an error message when editing your theme in the theme editor. This error message may occur for various reasons that would need to be identified by our internal team. Through our community forum, we are unable to authenticate accounts or investigate information that requires access to accounts. In order to have this reviewed, I recommend creating a support request via the Shopify Help Center, so our team can further assist you.

I hope this helps!

I am having this same problem in my store all of a sudden yesterday. I haven’t installed any new apps and I have never had this problem. I spend an hour with Shopify support only to waste my time. I tried incognito mode, 2 different web browsers, another computer, and even tried a friend to login from their system. Everything gets the same error no matter what I do. Still not fixed. Shopify support isn’t able to do anything. Even if I install a brand new theme I still get these errors.

Hi @AdventureParts

I understand you’ve connected with our authenticated chat support about this issue already but didn’t receive a resolution at this time. Did they confirm if this issue was being escalated for further support? If not, or if you are unsure, please ensure you reach back out to our support team to make this request. Our technical team will be happy to look into this with you.

I did talk to support for half an hour. They did something that reset the connection and I lost the chat window. I did get a message from the person after that and I have responded but it has been hours and I have not gotten any response back. I don’t understand what the problem could be. I have not installed any new modules or done anything with my website. I had been working on it yesterday adding some new categories through the theme editor to some of page templates. I have never had this error before. But it is now day 2 with the problem and I cannot modify or make changes to my template. I have even tried to install a new template into the system and it has the same problem as well. I just reset my computer/cleared cache, etc and it still doesn’t work. I have tried my mobile browser, my laptop, my wife’s computer and they all have the same problem.

The mobile application for iOS is doing the same thing. It just has the circle thing saying loading and it never loads anything. This use to allow me to see the theme editor in the application. But nothing is working. Support only tells me to clear cache or incognito mode… But how could all my devices running different operating systems all have the same issue? I find it hard to believe that there is not a problem with Shopify that has nothing at all to do with my computers.

I have done a little more research. I am also having issues loading some external apps. When I go to Apps > and I click on the arrow icon and it display a list of apps… Then if I chose an app such as Omnisend or Post Studio it will pull up a new tab and try to load the page but it will just be blank. I have tried many times. So I am not sure what happened or why these problems are occurring. I sure wish there was a way to see all of the updates to Shopify with version information and then I could easily know for sure that you or another app pushed up update and that is the cause of this. So as to avoid spending hours troubleshooting a problem that was created by Shopify thinking it is something wrong with my internet, web browsers or computers.

However… now I am having problems editing my pages. When I pull up a page to edit it tells me that it cannot save changes because I have no internet connection. But obviously, I must have a connection or I could not have loaded the page. So how many days does it take to fix this next glitch? How many hours of my time will you waste instead of being honest and just telling me Shopify made changes to the Api or something else… So disrespectful how you treat people. Just be honest.

Now that problem was fixed. Had nothing to do with me. Now you tell me when I edit a page I have no internet connection. Why not just tell me you have a glitch with your crap code and be honest. Why so many lies when it comes to these things???

I have the same problem today, but looks like open the url from incognito mode is a temporary solution for me. How did you manage to fix the issue ? Please share

Just find out it was the Harpa Chrome Extension that causing the issue for me. Just stop harpa or other similar extension !!!

I am having the issue again today. The problem last time just fixed on its own. I had seen the Shopify dev forum that they had made changes to the code or api and that must have caused the problem last time. This is a problem because when I reset/clear cache I lose all my logins and what I am working on. I have a few modules installed but they are high popular 5 star rated add ons. Not sure the problem with them. I try different web browsers and different computers so I don’t think it is a chrome extension in my case.

Thank YOUUUUUU! It was the Harpa extension causing this issue for me as well. Cheers!

I don’t have Harpa and the problem still annoying.

I am using the DAWN theme. Everything was going fine and now I can’t edit the website. When I try to edit the website, I get this error

This page is not compatible with the editor due to one of the following issues:

  • Page is redirecting to an unsupported URL
  • Page failed to load due to an error
I have tried to clear my cache and tried multiple browsers with no success. I can however get in on my phone but it is hard to add and edit pages that way.

Hi, I am also using the DAWN theme, and since last night it stopped letting me customize my theme. I’ve talk to support and tried everything they told me and still nothing. They told me that they could access it so it should be my devices, but I tried on 2 different devices with different wifi and cellular data and nothing. Even in my iPhone, and iPad I can’t access. This is very frustrating, and I still have an open ticket and waiting for a response.

Try disabling all of your chrome extensions. I did this later as the problem came again. This worked after! Shopify are not helpful at all with this issue.

Did this, and it is still not working.

It turned out to be a problem with my Shopify store or an update to the store or add-on. I waited a few hours or days and every time it fixed by itself. There was nothing wrong with my computer, extensions or anything else that caused this. Instead of being honest I was lead to believe I was the problem and wasted hours and days troubleshooting. I follow the Shopify dev forum now and whenever these issues happen they are usually right when or after Shopify does an update.
