Can I deactivate a store for months and reactivate it later?

Hi so I’m basically travelling for a number of months so I won’t be able to operate part of my business online here. I’ll be back in October. Luckily, my renewal is due in 8 days but I am not signed up for auto renewal.

Say I do come back after deactivating it for 3 months or so, do I have to pay for all the months that it wasn’t operating?

How long can the Shopfiy website stay deactivated? I’m presuming there is a limit of months?

Hi @kateillus

The Pause and Build plan seems to be the perfect solution for you if you want to take a break for a specific period of time. While you’re on the Pause and Build plan, your store continues to run at a reduced cost of $9 USD per month.

You can reopen your store at any time you’re ready for it by logging back in, and then selecting a new plan that is best suited for you.

If you deactivate your store, you have to pay the full amount for all the months that it wasn’t operating in order to reactivate it.

You can learn more about this by taking a look at this help doc here.

Hope this helps.

Is there a limit of time I can pause on that plan?

Hi @kateillus

There is no limit of time, you can reopen your store whenever you want.

Hi @kateillus ,

As mentioned by @AvadaCommerce , you can make use of Shopify’s Pause and Build plan to step away from the site for a while. Moving to this plan reduces the monthly cost of using Shopify to $9 USD per month. While your store is on this plan, your storefront will remain online and you retain access to the Shopify admin. You can remain on this plan for as long as you need and then choose another subscription when you are ready to begin selling again.

If you’d rather not pay anything while you’re not actively selling, you can cancel your subscription and deactivate your store. If you deactivate your store your online storefront will be taken offline and you will not be able to log in and access the Shopify admin until you have chosen a new plan. Shopify guarantees merchant data for up to 2 years when a store is deactivated, meaning you will have access to your store’s information if you log in and choose a new plan within this period, but we would still recommend exporting and downloading information that you may need in future before closing the store. This data may include your billing history, your theme files, and product and order data.

I hope this has helped explain your options but please let me know if you have any further questions.

Will I still be paying for my apps that I’m not using during Pause and Build Plan?

I’m going for a 1 month holiday, and I know I can’t afford to pay for my apps’ monthly subscriptions especially when I’m not generating income in the same month. I heard you still have to pay all your apps when you are in the pause and build plan?

Hi @kuehlapisbymom ,

Yes, you will continue to pay subscription fees for any third-party apps you have installed on your store even when on the Pause and Build plan. If you wish to cease payments for any apps you have that charge a fee then when pausing your store, you’ll need to either uninstall the app from your store or move down to the free version of the app (if one is offered). This information is outlined in our Help Center article on pausing and deactivating your store.

Hi Victor,

Just a follow-up question on your reply, if we deactivate our store, will the theme be retained once we decide to avail again for a new plan? Will the look of the website be the same? That’s the only concern I have.

Thanks in advance!
