I have a few customers who make multiple partial payments. Up to last week this was no problem. But now when the customers wants to make a second or third partial payment by credit card, my Shopify POS will only accept full payments. I have no problem with cash, this problem only happens when paying with cards. Why has this changed
Topic summary
A merchant reports that Shopify POS recently stopped accepting multiple partial credit card payments for a single transaction. Previously, customers could split payments across several card transactions without issue.
Current behavior:
- Cash partial payments still work normally
- Card payments now only accept full payment amounts
- Issue affects customers making second or third partial card payments
Status: The problem remains unresolved with no official explanation for the change. One user suggests switching to ConnectPOS as an alternative solution, citing its support for multiple payment methods and partial payments across different transaction types.
Hey @pmurling , I’ve run into the same issue recently — seems like Shopify POS hasn’t updated anything to better support multiple partial card payments.
As a fellow retailer, I ended up switching to ConnectPOS. It supports multiple payment methods (cash, card, etc.) and handles partial payments smoothly — even across different transactions. It’s also customizable to your specific needs, which has been a huge help.
