Is there a setting or code so that all shipping options are displayed instead of a dropdown with the cheapest shipping being the default? Or even expanded by default? It shows both if you aren’t signed in to an account but as soon as you are it becomes a dropdown. We offer two main shipping options but don’t want people to choose the cheaper shipping when not technically applicable. Unfortunately we’ve never had product weight and have a store of 20k products so adding it to create weight based shipping to avoid that is not an option. I’m afraid many customers will not click on the arrow to see the other option. I realize we can pay for an app to create shipping rules not based on weight, but for now I’m curious if there is a non-paid solution.
Topic summary
Multiple store owners report that Shopify’s checkout displays shipping options in a collapsed dropdown menu when customers are logged in, showing only the cheapest option by default. This differs from the logged-out experience where all options appear expanded.
Main concerns:
- Customers may not notice the dropdown arrow to view additional shipping methods
- Businesses are experiencing reduced uptake of premium options like express or same-day delivery
- One merchant worries customers will select cheaper shipping even when inappropriate for their needs
Constraints mentioned:
- Adding product weights to enable weight-based shipping rules is impractical for large catalogs (20k+ products)
- Paid apps exist for custom shipping rules, but users seek free solutions first
Proposed workaround:
One user suggests customizing the free/cheapest shipping rate’s description to read “Click for Express Options,” prompting customers to expand the dropdown.
Status: The issue remains unresolved with no native Shopify setting identified to force expanded display of all shipping options.
We have the same issue. We have express shipping, and same day delivery, but only our cheapest postage option is displayed to customers (although the other options are there but only through drop-down). We have seen a massive drop off in same-day delivery because of this. We really need all options displayed to customers. Is there a setting we can change to do this? If not, where could we raise an issue to have this fixed?
Same issue here. Looking for a solution
You can work around this by creating a custom shipping rate for the Free shipping then for the description enter “Click for Express Options”. Clicking anywhere on the free shipping option opens the drop down with all the options.
See my reply above for a possible workaround.
