Editing product info without editing all products at once

So I am pretty new to designing my own website and a bit of a noob to coding of any kind. I am having an issue making specific details for each product on their product pages. To preference, I am designing on Dawn theme. Also, I have all my products entered and on my online store page already and I want to now edit my store on the details of each product like their dimensions and the look of each page for each product.

So at first, when I edit the information on one product it kept changing the product information of all products, quick search and I found out I needed to make individual templates to edit to make the necessary changes I wanted. So when I went to do just that I am now having the issue where the default product page is based on only one of my products. So when I go to edit the next product it keeps popping up to the first product page and not the second one I want to edit and if I go to leave to go to the second one the template changes from the template I want to edit to default template again. How do I make a new template for each product so that it doesn’t pop up only on the first product? (If any of this makes sense) Thanks!

Hello, Emferris26, good evening

First of all, congratulations on getting to the creating of templates, it’s pretty good for a starter.

Second, I’m sorry, I couldn’t understand very much of your problem on the last part. You mentioned products and pages and templates, the products are not showing the template you assigned?

Thanks for the reply!

All the products got automatically assigned to the default product template so when I go to the catalog page that shows all the products and I click on one to bring up one product page, each show that it is the “default product” template. When I try to make a new template to edit the content of each product page it goes to the first product page every time. So if I try to create a new template and edit the second product by looking at its individual page it brings me back to the first product page as if the first product is the only product assigned as the default product template. If I try to leave that page to go back to the second product’s page it goes back to saying “default product” on top of the search bar as if I am no longer under the new template and I can’t edit the individual page without changing all the information of the rest of the products again. Hopefully that is more clear.

When I try to make a new template to edit the content of each product page it goes to the first product page every time. So if I try to create a new template and edit the second product by looking at its individual page it brings me back to the first product page as if the first product is the only product assigned as the default product template. - when you say this, where are you trying to make the new template? In the theme customizer? And then there, when you create a new one, it shows the first product? Is that it?

Yes I believe so, here is a picture of what I’m using to create templates. The picture below is the first product that keeps popping up when I try to edit another product on a different page when I click new template:

Hello, thanks for the screenshot! I see the issue now.

First, after you create the templates, you need to assign them to the products, as I can see from your screenshot, ‘crankbait-earrings’ and ‘crankbait-keychains’ aren’t assigned to any product. You can assign product templates in here, in the product page in admin:

other than that, if you want to change the product that you see in customizer, you need to click here:

Changing the preview worked perfectly in customizer! One last quick question, when I go to assign the templates to the product on the product page in admin it doesn’t give me the option to do the new templates, do I have to publish them first in the customizer before I assign them in the admin?

Oh you are creating the templates in a theme that isn’t the live one? If yes, then yes, you need to put it live. Or create the templates in the live theme
