Topic summary
A store owner lost Shopify admin access after a dispute with their marketing agency. Despite no contract and giving 3 months’ notice, the agency demanded excessive fees and then blocked backend access within hours when the owner didn’t immediately respond. The timing is critical (busiest season), and the owner can’t fulfill orders, risking lost revenue and reputation.
The owner asks if Shopify can restore their permissions, noting they own the company/brand/assets and pay all Shopify costs. “Backend” refers to the Shopify admin dashboard used to manage orders and the store.
A Shopify representative provided a support link and apologized. The owner reports the chat advised preparing legal paperwork, which could delay access for days or weeks, and reiterates the request for Shopify to grant access upon proof of ownership.
Current status: unresolved. Action items: legal team is contacting the agency; the owner has contacted Shopify support. Key question remains whether Shopify can verify ownership and reinstate admin access promptly.
Hi, @Angusgreenwood1 !

Please let me know if you have any other questions!
Thanks this wasn’t helpful. The chat just told me to make sure I had my paperwork ready with my legal team. This could mean we are without our shop for days or even weeks. Surely if I prove I am the owner shopify can let me in to my own store!?
