Just for you to know: I’m a non US resident, I have an LLC in the US, I have a US business bank account and I do drop shipping.
I want to start accepting payments with Shopify Payments because it is in my opinion #1 and other payments methods are just worse. I texted the support and they told me that I need to send proofs of my warehouses, but the thing is that I do drop shipping and I do not have any warehouses. I use “CJdropshipping” as a supplier.
I saw so many dropshipping stores that do not have warehouses but they have Shopify Payments set up. How do they do that?
Thank you for reaching out to the Community! I’m happy to provide some assistance with locating a payment provider for the shop, to ensure this gets resolved. To confirm I’m fully understanding, do you currently have physical operations (i.e an office) in the United States?
If not, I encourage you to check out this complete list of all available third-party payment providers in your region. Shopify has integrated with over 100 different third-party payment providers to allow you to continue accepting credit cards online.
For any questions that you may have regarding a specific payment provider, I encourage you to connect with them directly. They will be able to share more information with you and answer any other questions that you may have.
For more information on this, you can check our Third-Party Payment Providers documentation as it touches on this further.
Please let me know if you have any other questions or concerns.
To provide some clarification, physical operations would mean that you have an office or warehouse that’s operating within the United States, for example. The business would need to be physically operating out of the United States in order to proceed with potentially using Shopify Payments as a payment gateway.
If you don’t currently have this, I’d encourage you to check out this complete list of all available third-party payment providers in your region. Shopify has integrated with over 100 different third-party payment providers to allow you to continue accepting credit cards online.

So if I have a registered agent - I am still not eligible? What proofs will I have to send? And also how other drop shippers connect Shopify Payments? I know a lot of drop shippers who do not have any offices and warehouses but they still use shopify payments somehow. What proofs of the office or warehouse will I have to send you? If my supplier has their warehouse in the US - is it enough to connect Shopify Payments? Thank you
As far as I know, if Shopify payments are off the table for you , the smartest move is to dive deep into your target market and scout for the top APM (Alternative Payment Method) that resonates with your audience. ?
Remember, tapping into market-specific APMs can skyrocket your reach by tenfold!
Next up, figure out the best strategy to snag these APMs. For instance, by setting up business entities in the US, UK, or Europe, you unlock the treasure chest to the most coveted APMs through aggregate payment processors.
Here’s a sneak peek at some of them:
Stripe is like a magic wand for Klarna, Bancontact, iDEAL, GiroPay, Sofort, EPS, ClearPay, AdyerPay, Affirm, p24, Blik, Cartes Bancaires, Multibanco… and the list goes on.
Adyen rolls out the red carpet for Twint, Vipps, MobilePay, Klarna, Bancontact, iDEAL, GiroPay, Sofort, EPS, ClearPay, and a whole lot more.
I’ve recently encountered an issue with Shopify Payments. Since I’m not physically located in the USA, Shopify has informed me that I can’t use their payment services like Visa, MasterCard, or other payment methods that Shopify supports. Instead, I’ve been advised to use third-party payment providers.
However, I’m facing challenges because many popular third-party payment methods aren’t available in my region. I do have an EIN number and a business address in the USA, and while I’m not a US resident, I do have a SS-4 form instead of a SSN. Does this help in any way, or am I still restricted from using Shopify Payments?
Has anyone else dealt with a similar situation? What alternatives are available for those of us who can’t use third-party payment methods easily? I’d appreciate any advice or suggestions on how to navigate this situation and ensure a smooth payment experience for my customers.
You need to establish an operational presence (plus a real US bank account, which requires travel and both a business and personal utility bill (an expensive process), which means either leasing or owning a warehouse in the name of your US LLC. Shopify Payments needs to verify your presence to reduce its risk. Been watching similar topics for a while - wondering if anyone has found a solution.
My take: It’s essentially impossible to use Shopify Payments as a non-resident, unless you somehow have proof of residential address in that country - which almost no non-residents would have. Even if you try to be sneaky and rent local warehouse space, Shopify will deep dive into this, so being accepted is a coin toss.
Shopify’s response is always “Oh, you can try one of the 3rd-party payment gateways”, but here’s the thing: I’ve researched dozens such 3rd-party payment gateways, and ALL now also require you to provide proof of local address, same as Shopify Payments.
So, to sum up what I understand the current situation to be: It is now essentially impossible operate a Shopify store outside of your country of residence. No payment gateway will approve you. Don’t even bother trying.
This maybe wasn’t the case a few years ago, but it is now… All these company formation agents, dropshipping gurus - and for that matter, Shopify - are just living off our ignorance.
I think the same thing, it is impossible to work on Shopify outside the appropriate country, I try to open a merchant account with all the third party gateways in the list and they all ask for SSN, they do not accept Itin for the owner…
Stirpe closes the account for no reason
Many gateways ask for 50,000k per month…
I will switch to WordPress because it is impossible to work here… After 5 years and no charges or disputes it is incredible to hear “we cannot support your business”
Sorry to hear, Andrea. I’m just launching, but it would be even worse after 5 years!
Will moving to Wordpress help? You’ll still need a payment gate provider, even if it’s not Shopify Payments, and as far as I’ve experienced they all require this proof of local residence now.
