I’m a consumer and have just paid for a product. On the Shopify payment page I see that my last 4 cards plus my last 3 addresses are stored. I was also not asked to enter my CVV number which means that it is likely that this is stored too. This is really worrying as I haven’t given my permission for Shopify to store my details and there are way too many reports of hackers breaking into databases and stealing this information! How can I get this information removed?
Hi @SteveT1 ,
Thank you for reaching out to the Community. I’d be happy to provide some assistance with this request, to ensure it gets resolved. To confirm I’m fully understanding, this is in regards to an order that you placed online correct?
While all stores powered by Shopify are PCI Compliant and do not store credit card information, Shop Pay does. I recommend confirming how the order was placed, as Shop Pay is an available payment option that can be offered to customers. This payment option offers a faster checkout experience as it remembers the buyer’s credit card, shipping address, and additional billing information.
If you’ve confirmed the order was placed using Shop Pay, you can follow this link to delete your account and opt-out of Shop Pay moving forward. This will ensure that all personal information including addresses and credit card details are removed from the app.
To learn more about Shop Pay and how you may have opted-in, you can check out Shop Pay directly.
If however, you did not checkout using Shop Pay I’d encourage you to contact the shop that you purchased from directly. They will be able to share more information with you on how the purchase was completed to ensure this gets resolved. To learn more about online orders, you can refer to our Order FAQ Page.
Please let me know if you have any other questions or concerns.
