I'm a customer. How do I delete my card details from shopify

I don’t have a shop on shopify. I’m a customer and have paid through shopify.

What I want to do is remove any payment card details I have used on shopify that have been stored by shopify or I wish to remove my personal details and financial details from Shopify. I do not have any outstanding transactions with anyone.

Can someone please tell me how.

Hi, @MyronSz !

Ash here from the Shopify team.

It’s absolutely possible to have your personal information removed from Shopify. If you’ve made a purchase on a site hosted with Shopify, merchants are able to remove customer information from their end upon request. You can reach out to the merchant you purchased from with your request by either using the contact information posted on their site (if applicable), or by replying to the original order notification you received from them.

If you opted into Shopify Pay when making a purchase on a shop hosted with Shopify, this saves your payment details for quicker checkouts on Shopify sites in the future. It’s possible to opt out of Shopify Pay if you want your payment details to be removed from that feature.

To opt out of Shopify Pay, head over to this page here. On that page, enter your email address or phone number that you used to checkout when you opted into Shopify Pay. You can then proceed with the next steps on the screen to complete the process.

Let me know by replying here if you have any further questions or any issues opting out of Shopify Pay.

The link doesn’t exist anymore.

How do I opt out? I already complained with the OPC but it would be great if you could make it easier before their intervention.

Thanks,

Hi @Alllloppo

Thank you for reaching out about this. I understand that you want to remove your information from the Shop Pay feature available to our merchants. This is a perfectly legitimate request and I have the updated link for you.

You can review information about how Shop Pay works, how to connect an account and how to remove an account in our Shop Pay Help Center: Opt Out of Shop Pay.

I also wanted to share with you our privacy statement for customers in case you haven’t had a chance to review it yet: Shopify Privacy Policy for Customers. If this was not what you were looking for, please let me know and I’ll be happy to further assist you.

I too want to remove my account details and am finding it very difficult. I also do not want to download your app. So how do I do this?

Hi @sb22

Could you share a bit more details about the information you want to have removed? Are you a merchant who wants to remove their data from a store management perspective? Or a customer of a Shopify merchant/Shop App/Shop Pay and want to remove your customer data from those services?

Both can absolutely be done and do not require downloading or installing any app. As noted in the link I shared in my previous post, for customers our approach to managing your data is that we encourage you to contact the merchant you purchased from as they legally own your data. If the merchant is no longer active or with us on the platform then our support team may be able to step in to assist with clearing your customer data from the platform.

If you are a merchant you can review our policies on your data and the best next steps to have your data removed here: Shopify Privacy Policy for Merchants.

No I am a customer

I will contact the company of the recent purchase however when I purchased from this co. For the first time it seems all my details - debit card and address went through without me imputing anything.
Therefore I assumed that this info came from Shopify which unbeknown to me I had previously used?
Would this be the case and if so I want it all removed.

Hi @sb22 , thank you for that extra information!

The checkout information may have been saved using Shop Pay, but it would have required first entering a verification code sent to your cell phone before the data was input. Your internet browser on your computer or smart phone may also have your payment details saved within the browser itself to autofill.

You can check the auto-fill settings in your browsers or on your device to see if that is the case.

For Shop Pay, if you are opted in and want to delete your account entirely, please follow this link to see the steps for that: Shop App - How to delete my account.

All the links to Opt Out of Shop Pay are broken. This is one is still working as of the day of this post: https://help.shop.app/hc/en-us/articles/360060344232-Opt-out-of-Shop-Pay

And this is a direct link to the Opt Out form: https://shop.app/pay/phone-optout

I had to make an account to get in. I use a company with a Shopify account and they told me I cannot delete cards or information because it’s run through Shopify. And then I was told they cannot delete the cards either, again because it’s run through Shopify. There are only two merchants I use who go through Shopify and the fact that I cannot delete ANY of my information is a huge problem. I have had 3 credit cards hacked because they run through Shopify. How do I know? I get a few days worth of $ .10 charges from Shopify directly before getting deluged with fraudulent charges. I want all my information out of Shopify, but seem to have no recourse. I can’t even delete my closed cards off the account.

Hi, @jlkyork .

Thank you for reaching out! Please contact the store directly with this request, as they will need to contact Shopify Support to have this information erased.

Hard to believe this is ok in Europe, Contacting the EU data protection regulator now
