I have encountered a problem I can’t solve on my own, so I’ve decided to start a new store from scratch for a completely fresh start. I’ve built most of it, and now I need to transfer my domain from the old primary store to the new one. The first step I want to take is to delete the records for the old primary store from the domain hosting website. I’m not sure how to locate the Shopify records and remove them. Can you help me with this please?
Hey, @Sao!
I’d love to help you out with this domain concern. You actually don’t need to remove the Shopify DNS records from your third-party domain settings, as you simply wish to connect your domain to a different Shopify store. The Shopify DNS records are the same for any store, so you want to keep them there. What you need to do is just disconnect the domain from your old store and then connect it to your new one. You can find the steps to do these below.
Disconnect your third-party domain
- In your Shopify admin (old store), go to Settings > Domains.
- Click the name of the domain that you want to remove.
- Click Delete domain.
- Click Remove again to confirm.
Connect your third-party domain
- In your Shopify admin (new store), go to Settings > Domains.
- Click Connect existing domain.
- Enter your domain and then click Next.
- Click Connect automatically.
- If necessary, log in to your Google Domains, GoDaddy, or 1&1 IONOS account.
- Click Connect, and then click Close.
That should resolve your concern. If it doesn’t, please explain the difficulties you’re experiencing and I’ll help you further.
I hope everything is going well with your business. What made you decide to build a new store? And how is the store setup going?
I don t see any delete button
Are you able to share a screenshot of your domain settings so I can take a closer look, [email removed]Sao? Feel free to send it over here and any other details that are preventing you from removing your domain and I’ll find a solution.
Looking forward to hearing from you!
