How do I transfer a premium theme to another store?

Hi all, First time Shopify user. I created a Shopify Partner account and started working on a demo website for a client - I gave it a random placeholder subdomain, and then after I was given the go ahead to purchase the theme I bought the theme (Pipeline), however under the placeholder website w/ its generic shopify subdomain (i.e. xyzetc.myshopify.com). I want to transfer the theme to a parallel, more appropriately named Shopify Store… Anyone know how I might go about doing that? Any help would be absolutely appreciated!

Hi @jetranger407

A Theme is linked to the store it is bought to, not the domain you end up linking it to. So you will not be able to transfer said theme to a new store without repurchasing the license.

Thanks for your response, @JHKCreate . I came across a different thread where a similar question was asked.. however there solution wasn’t too clear for my understanding… Would this not be the same thing?

I also saw an info page by a Shopify Theme Developer that talks about transferring a Premium Theme between stores and they seem to say it’s something that can be done with Shopify Support Teams…

Any help or direction would be greatly appreciated, Shopifiers!

@JHKCreate is correct in that you would need to repurchase the license on the new store. Here are the steps to complete a transfer of the theme to continue getting support for the theme:

1) Download the theme to your computer. This is done in Online Store > Themes (Screenshot). You will be sent an email from which you can download the theme file.

2) You will need to delete the theme from the original store.
3) You will then need to close the original store.
4) You can then upload the theme file to the new store.

5) You will then purchase the theme again for the new store. This will allow you to get updates for the theme in the future.

6) You will then need to reach out to our Support. The Support Advisor will escalate the ticket to refund the original theme invoice. Note that this means the refund will go back to the card that paid the invoice.

While we’re not able to provide account-specific support via the Shopify Community at this time, we’d be happy to continue assisting you through live chat, email, or callback. Please visit https://bit.ly/3cJkx8V and log in to your account to create a support request.

Since this is the next step I’ve marked this reply as the solution for the benefit of others who may discover this topic. Thanks!

I would like to use my customized theme in a 2nd store in order to keep the large amount of custom coding. Can I do this after I have purchased a new license for the same theme for the new store. Also will it be a fresh theme without pictures and listings information, etc from the previous store? I had some broken links, slow coding, etc. attached to the main store and wondering how much of this will carry over to my newly opened store.
