How do you handle online order exchanges on Shopify?

Has anyone resolved the issue of not being able to exchange products that were purchased online? The only way I can see to do it is to refund the product and change the refund value to $0, then create a new order and discount the product by 100%. It seems ridiculous that Shopify doesn’t have any native way to do this, it’s an extremely basic function.

Thank you for reaching out to the Community. I’m happy to provide some guidance with exchanging online orders, to ensure this gets resolved.

As you have mentioned, the best way to provide customers with an online exchange, would include setting the refund value to $0, and creating a new order that discounts the product by 100%. Online exchanges however, would be considered a current limitation of online orders.

As I can understand the impact of this, I’m more than happy to share these notes with our Developers. We are always working to improve the platform and appreciate this feedback. While we cannot guarantee this feature will become available, the more requests we receive will lead to its likelihood for change within the future.

I’m just wondering how many request you need because we have been requesting it for years.
We just need the ability to have a negative qty sold.
Please, being able to exchange a product to get a size that fits really is a standard of the current e-commerce world.

Being able to do an exchange on online orders is very important to us. We cannot do the exchange on the POS app, as Shopify suggests, because the tax rate may be different and we are not able to add any additional shipping charges on an exchange in the POS app. Please fix this problem.
