How does Shopify handle product shipping?

I’m brand new to this and am confused about exactly what Shopify does. Do they ship my products? If so, how do I get the product to them?

Don’t worry about being a bit confused if you are new, that is perfectly OK!

Shopify is the platform that a lot of businesses use to sell both in-person and online. We provide the tools to allow you to sell, however we do not sell on your behalf or provide any products for you to sell. Those are things that merchants themselves would take care of.

Have you thought about what kind of products you would like to sell on your store? Perhaps the dropshipping model would suit you. With this approach you don’t need to hold any inventory or ship items yourself. It’s a low risk/low cost way to get involved with selling products online.

You asked if Shopify ship your products - we do have the Shopify Fulfilment Network, which is a service that you can use to store your inventory and fulfill orders, however you would need to meet specific eligibility criteria first. For brand new merchants just getting started with selling online, this is most likely not something that you would consider until you are more established and making regular sales.

Many merchants would fulfil their orders themselves - this means sourcing their own products, then packaging & shipping them to customers themselves as the orders come in. We do have some tools to make this easier, such as Shopify Shipping which allows you to purchase & print shipping labels in your Shopify Admin.
