My team and I have noticed that Shopify recently changed its search UI in the store admin to skip the step where you enter a search term and it directs you to a page with a list of your relevant results.
My team often used that functionality to be able to bring up a curated list of our results and be able to work within that set. Being in the coffee industry, it’s really helpful to sift among our many product offerings (past and present) and able to return to the results page when backing out of a particular product.
However, with the new functionality, results are brought up on the same page (our product page, in this case) within a drop-down only. This forces us to choose a product and navigate to it directly rather than having the full list of results available to us.
We’re not sure who benefits from not being able to view their search results on a full page, and perhaps this design change was meant to skip the “unnecessary” step of redirecting you to a separate search result page. However, we’ve found this change extremely unhelpful and are dying for the UI to return to the way it was!
Anyone else finding this change an issue for them? Any hope, Shopify, of convincing you to roll back the search UI to the way it was?
Sincerely,
Lori (aka Search Results-less in Seattle)
